More than 100 diplomats from some 40 countries have walked out of a speech by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at the United Nations in Geneva as a protest against Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Tuesday’s boycott by envoys from the European Union, the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan and others left only a few diplomats in the room.

Those remaining at the Human Rights Council meeting included Russia’s ambassador to the UN in Geneva, Gennady Gatilov, who is a former deputy to Lavrov.

Ukraine should have known that violating agreements brings serious repercussions. They signed an agreement with Russia after WW11 never to join NATO,and bring it near Russia's borders. Moreover Eastern Ukraine is populated by ethnic Russians who have been resentful of ethnic Ukrainian and the central authority, and strongly desire to join Russia or be an independent nation.
That's what brought Russian annexation of Crimea in 2014.

The Rate at which U ppl spread rubbish with confidence is alarming..How can Ukraine which was born during the dissolution of USSR in 1991 sign an agreement with Russia that wasn't born yet afta World War 2? A whole lot of U jus open ur mouths waaaaaa and expose ur lack of the subject matter. Russia annexed Crimea in 2014 becos the Puppet they imposed on Ukrainians wanted closer ties with Russia and severed the EU ties Ukraine already had which led to protests nationwide and he ran away... Russia saw it as an opportunity to invade and annex Crimea.. Ukraine was already a NATO partner as far back as 1994... By annexing Crimea which is a part of Ukraine and sponsoring separatist groups in the disputed Region, Russia had made sure Ukraine cannot be allowed to join NATO becos no country with territorial dispute is allowed in. Instead of doing small research U ppl jus join bandwagon to exhibit ignorance
