However gas is till coming in through the existing pipeline that comes through Ukraine and Russia won't shut that off unless they want to starve.

Europe will take some short term inflation pains but at the same time you will start to see coal and nuclear power plants going up to cut reliance on gas. They will even subsidise the building of them. That's how these things work.
