![]() This is where Nigerian hospitals keep getting it wrong Running an hospital isn't the discipline of a Nurse, Doctor or a pharmacist... It is strictly an administrative discipline with Medical and Health service Managers, and Hospital Administrator as their qualification Same way Nigeria foolishly made Emeifiele a banking and finance Graduate to head sensitive Central Bank of Nigeria instead of a seasoned economist . |

I think this is a step in the right direction Some doctors know nothing about administration and therefore suck at it Some of them own private hospitals and therefore use this hospitals to catch cruise |

Over regulated country. Why should there be a law on who heads hospitals? Most hospitals abroad are headed by professional managers. |

opera1:Once it's passed in a bill and signed, it becomes law. NMC can't do anything about it. Besides there is no place in NMC laws and bylaws that state the only them must run hospitals. Besides what the reps want to do is make those other branches of healthcare be part of hospital boards |

Why do we have so many related courses to a medical doctor in Nigeria?. I see that as a discipline distraction and those courses should be scrapped asap. |

This will be the best thing to have happened to the Nigeria healthcare sector. Professional rivalry will die a natural death, incessant strikes in the sector will be a thing of the past. The patients will benefit greatly from this bill and the moribund health sector will come out alive. Nigerians deserve the best international practices by our health professionals. |

Good. Below is a long read for you just to buttress the need for this law as I once shared 4 years ago and published in ThisDay Newspaper as well . I am happy someone eventually saw and/or agreed with my recommendations and the need to save our public health system by doing something very serious to address the problem. I call on the National Assembly and appeal to Nigerians to support this bill. It is the citizens that have been losing all the while and this law has great potential to transform the public health system and attract talents who are not members of NMA back into the system. Health professionals know how to take care of themselves but we can not continue like that. I always insist that health professionals, especially those trained with taxpayers funds, recieve their knowledge and training in trust for Nigerians first and must do the right thing as Professionals and Nigerian patriots.
