Ukrainians protested against the "Putin Puppet" and he subsequently fled the country. The region of Crimea protested and subsequently conducted a referendum to be independent. History has shown through the failure of Napoleon and Hitler that it is one thing to keep invading more countries in Europe but it is a completely different thing to maintain control over said territories. If you have studied war you would know that the farther you leave your base on land, the more difficult it is for effective logistics.
