Ben Wallace has told President Vladimir Putin not to test Britain, and warned Russian that 'history is littered' with despots who underestimated the UK and the West.

In an interview with The Sunday Telegraph, Mr Wallace said the West 'must not be afraid of Putin'.

He warned the Russian leader - who he said was 'acting irrationally and inflicting horrors on Ukraine' - not to 'test' the UK.

'The thing to say to Putin is don't underestimate us, don't test us,' he told the newspaper.

'History is littered with authoritarian leaders underestimating the wider West and the United Kingdom. He clearly underestimated the international community.' He added: 'If we stick together and refuse to be intimidated then I believe he will fail.'

Mr Wallace's comments come after increasing warnings that intervention in the war in Ukraine by the West would be considered as entering the conflict by the Kremlin.

On Saturday, a defiant Putin called the West's economic, diplomatic and cultural boycott of the country tantamount to a declaration of war.

He also warned that his regime would consider any third-party declaration of a no-fly zone as 'participation in the armed conflict'.

Russia didn't say they are at war with Ukraine. It is western media that are pushing that narrative. Russia is not interested in taking over Ukraine. They are after demilitarizing Ukraine as they said. This is done by simply targetting Ukraine's nuclear plants, military and armouries. This they are doing by avoiding civilian deaths. That is why despite the outcry by western media, civilian deaths are relatively low.

Notwithstanding the above, when I say say war as stated in my earlier comment, I mean using nuclear weapons or military to face civilians and military personnel. I am not talking about what is happening in Ukraine but a real battle where nuclear weapons, soldiers are at a mission to kill anyone and not just targetting military bases, armouries, etc.

United Kingdom won't take Russia 1 day to clear. Don't forget that Ukraine is a brother to Russia, so you don't expect them to unleash their full wrath on them. It is like fighting your brother, it can't be the same fighting an enemy.

USA do not go into the kind of bilateral arrangements they have with UK with a weak country

Most strong European countries that joined NATO did that to be as strong as USA cos invading any is like invading USA.

UK is not Ukraine. It can't really be attacked by land except Russia is willing to invade multiple European countries to get to Britain at which their military would have been so annihilated the remainder would be piecemeal for the brits to tear apart.

Russia can only attack Britain through sea in conjuction with its naval airforce. I presume the brits would tear Russia to pieces on a naval war. The UK airforce is far superior especially with the delivery of F35s from the US and the newly developed HMS aircraft carrier
