John Terry has responded to Conor McGregor's outlandish claim that he wants to look into buying Chelsea from Roman Abramovich.

The Blues owner has confirmed his decision to sell the club following Russia's invasion of Ukraine and it's understood he wants £3billion for the Premier League side.

Abramovich denies any affiliation with Vladimir Putin and is yet to face punishment as the UK government continues to target Russian money with sanctions.

The 55-year-old is setting up a foundation with all net proceeds of the sale going towards victims of Russia ’s invasion of Ukraine.

Abramovich, who has owned Chelsea since 2003, also said he won’t be asking for any loans owed to him, which are said to amount to £1.5billion

McGregor, who is worth several hundred million, has previously expressed an interest in buying his boyhood club Manchester United.

And the 33-year-old has now thrown his hat in the ring to purchase the Blues.

The UFC fighter shared a screenshot of WhatsApp messages on Twitter which read: “Chelsea for sale £3bn. Let’s buy it.”

The caption of the tweet read: “I wish to explore this. @ChelseaFC.”

He then posted a video of him as the owner of the club in a press conference and then chatting to staff on the training pitch.

The caption read: "Push it to the limit! @ChelseaFC."

Whether he actually has the capabilities to put together an offer - either alone or as part of a consortium - is in doubt.

But that didn't stop Chelsea legend John Terry sending a cryptic response to McGregor, tweeting the eyes, blue heart and football emojis.
Abramovich confirmed his decision to sell Chelsea to protect the club following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

He said in a statement: “As I have stated before, I have always taken decisions with the club’s best interest at heart. In the current situation, I have therefore taken the decision to sell the club, as I believe this is in the best interest of the club, the fans, the employees, as well as the club’s sponsors and partners.

“The sale of the club will not be fast-tracked but will follow due process. I will not be asking for any loans to be repaid. This has never been about business nor money for me, but about pure passion for the game and club.

Moreover, I have instructed my team to set up a charitable foundation where all net proceeds from the sale will be donated. The foundation will be for the benefit of all victims of the war in Ukraine. This includes providing critical funds towards the urgent and immediate needs of victims, as well as supporting the long-term work of recovery.

“Please know that this has been an incredibly difficult decision to make, and it pains me to part with the club in this manner. However, I do believe this is in the best interest of the club.

“I hope that I will be able to visit Stamford Bridge one last time to say goodbye to all of you in person. It has been a privilege of a lifetime to be part of Chelsea FC and I am proud of all our joint achievements. Chelsea Football Club and its supporters will always be in my heart.”
