Russia did not save Europe from Hitler. Europe was saved by combined effort of many countries including the British and Americans. If it was Germany Vs Russia one on one, Russia would have lost that war. The mistake Hitler made was fighting on multiple fronts at the same time. Even the Polish had their own resistance fighters also fighting then too. Same with France and other countries. Russia just had the population to waste on the war.

And Russia did not withdraw after the end of the World War 2. They instead started occupying the former German held countries under them and that was how they built the USSR and why Eastern Europeans still hate and are wary of them till today despite shared history.
