Why not build another one.

Or better still a bigger area for artist to perform in.

Nigerians don't visit theater enough, so it would not generate much revenue.

It's 4000 seater capacity is too small for artists to use for a live event.

So build a huge stage like the O2 arena. 40 billion is more than enough for 2 of those.

Good morning sir.
One word; COMPETENCE .

Asiwaju Tinubu is extremely competent and capable to lead Nigeria to greater heights. He is an excellent experienced public administrator and a Patriot to the core.

Asiwaju Tinubu is a brilliant visionary leader who will keep his promise to take Nigeria to greater heights.

I may need to take you down memory lane of his account of stewardship in public office in case you do not know or trying to ignore the significance of Asiwaju's sterling performance in office as a reason he is being rewarded woth support today.

As the Executive Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Tinubu recovered what is now called Eko Atlantic from the raging Atlantic ocean Lagos Bar beach coast line flooding (for decades that problem even some of the more developed nations explain away as climate change problems) defied all solutions by FG and the highbrow strategic Victoria Island was deteriorating fast with businesses, embassies, hotels etc exiting VI in droves. During that time, the Atlantic ocean flooding reach the fringes of Ozumba after the flood completely take over Adetokunbo Ademola. Lagos State Government under the brilliant , resourceful and hardworking Asiwaju Tinubu solved that herculean challenge and today, VI is back to its glory.

It was Asiwaju Tinubu that brought back the Lagos Central Business District and Broad street commercial nerve centre of Nigeria back to life after it was abandoned, it's Asiwaju Tinubu who built major roads from Oregun to Lawanson to Igando LASU to as far as Badagry etc.

Asiwaju Tinubu is the one who fixed the horrible waste problem we had in Lagos and that LASTMA and BRT you see was created by Asiwaju. Asiwaju Tinubu was the one who got Lagos State to be part of the owners of Econet and unlike Delta State where the shares were sold and funds pocketed, Lagos State Shares were warehoused with professional investors in the state investment agency called Ibile holdings.

Asiwaju Tinubu increased bursaries to students of Lagos State origin (NULASS) and made public schools free for all Lagosians regardless of your tribe, religion or political party affiliation after his administration had successfully returned missionary schools to their original owners( other states later copied Lagos) . It was during his tenure that Ikeja General Hospital became a teaching Hospital, upgraded most of the clinics to General Hospitals giving free health to the 5 years and below and Lagosians of 65 years and above age group. .

The fund that BRF used to quickly build infrastructures were the LGA funds withheld by Pa Obasanjo and despite that Asiwaju Tinubu never owed salaries.
When the purchase of FG refineries by Alhaji Dangote was cancelled by HE Yardua, Alhaji Aliko Dangote ran to Asiwaju Tinubu after most state governments and governors in the SS gave Dangote a cold shoulder. Today, through the assistance Asiwaju Tinubu gave Aliko Dangote, Dangote Refinery is taking off to help us stop the petrol subsidy killing our naira and public finances.

Asiwaju Tinubu is loyal to those who paid the ultimate price for our democracy and today heroes like Bagauda Kalto, Pa Alfred Rewane, Pa Abraham Adesanya etc are immortalized in Lagos . One of the most memorable achievements of Asiwaju Tinubu for me was helping to stop the blood letting and recurring Hausa-Yoruba/OPC war in Idi Araba and Agege. Those hellish period of unrest defied even the effort of past military state administrators of Lagos but Asiwaju Tinubu was able to solve it.

That Lagos State Government civil service is regarded as the best in Nigeria is due to the hardwork Asiwaju Tinubu did to reform it, created Tutors-Generals offices, improved harmonized pay structure, best pension scheme for civil servants etc.
I can go on and on to educate you on the legacies of Asiwaju Tinubu still standing till today as my reasons for my confidence in Asiwaju Tinubu sir/ma

That's why my appeal goes to you my fellow patriotic Nigerians to please vote for Asiwaju Tinubu.
Please vote for Asiwaju Tinubu.

Why did you use small lie to spoil your good right up?

We know of Igando Lasu road but which one is up to Badagry, what are the names of the roads built up to Badagry?

Joseph Dosu road that one can point to that ran through the heart of Badagry town terminates at roundabout and it was done during Raji Fashola regime

So, filter your information to remove the ones that are not verifiable

My brethren, if they didn't spend it on the Theatre, they will still embezzle it ni, and use bullion van to carry it to their different house or Transfer it to London and be going there every six months to withdraw.

But wait ooo, 40 billion to renovate, how much will it cost to build a new one from foundation? Just about 10 billion.

The gods of Ogun, Sango, Obatala, Aiyelala and Esu Odara are messing up. These looters are supposed to have been struck dead since.

Is this how useless the naira has become? So worthless that we use a whopping 40b to renovate?

for me, this is a white elephant project

the nigeria of today, how many people watch plays?

lets even assume they use the theatre for comedy shows or screening movies - it is not in an optimal location.

no one is going to drive to a place bounded on all sides by traffic jams with machete wielding thugs

all APC has done is gain political control of the SW. but has APC actually been able to develop the SW in the past 10 years?

National art theatre that has an environment that reminds one of the wetlands of Everglades ...the water there are brackish as a result of serious pollution and defecation from the adjoining slums in and around the Eko bridge.

You forgot to add he is taking 10percent of Lagos Igr through his company alpha beta and would definitely extend it to 10percent of Nigeria revenue, if he mistakenly finds his way to power.

A sad tale of zero maintenance culture for a national landmark.

Hopefully, Lagos State government will be able to restore it and better manage it.

RETURNING TO THE GLORY DAYS - NATIONAL ARTS THEATRE, LAGOS

An unprecedented sum of 40 billion Naira was devoted to the renovation, and what we are about to see is the 21st century National Theatre, fully upgraded, updated, and ready to host the world's greatest superstars, in top class condition, once more.

To those saying the cost is too much, bear in mind that there are several additions to the Theatre in a masterplan, and the monies could encompass those projects.

The masterplan for the theatre:

https://chrismichaelsltd.com/images/National-Theatre-Portfolio1.jpg

https://chrismichaelsltd.com/images/National-Theatre-Portfolio3.jpg

''The Lagos Mixed-Use Project Master Plan incorporates approximately 70 hectares of land around the National Theater in the historical center of Lagos. Surrounded on the west by dense neighborhoods and on the east by a major elevated highway, the site is a tranquil spot within the bustling city. Into this potentially dynamic area, the Master Plan program consists of a new Cultural & Entertainment district, a Resort Hotel, a Business Hotel, an Office Development, a Regional Shopping Center, a Waterpark, and several large usable Green Zones.

All uses are meant to be complimentary to the existing National Theater’s present and future program. In addition to the new uses suggested above, the main feature of the Master Plan is a new water feature in the form of an undulating navigable River at the heart of the overall development. Along this new River, pedestrians stroll or float past numerous venues for Cultural Events, Street Retail, and Entertainment. The River continues to organize the Business Hotel and all the Office Blocks.

The site is extremely well served by the existing road network and a new public transportation hub. The new elevated Monorail line bisects the site from east to west, stopping near the National Theater to bring thousands of visitors to the immediate area. A divided boulevard bisects the site from north to south, connects with the surrounding road network, providing access to all parcels within the Master Plan.

The Regional Shopping Mall is placed directly adjacent to the Monorail Station in order to take advantage of the thousands of visitors that will arrive by public transportation. Next to the Mall is the Waterpark which has great synergy with the offer of the Mall and is a great draw for family entertainment to the overall site. The site has tremendous open space for use by the visiting public. In addition to the lengthy River, two substantial Green Zones are created to form a buffer between the elevated Highway along the east and the rest of the development.

One Green Zone includes a Great Lawn for outdoor events such as concerts and festivals while the other Green Zone is devoted primarily to Sports Fields and outdoor physical activity. Parking throughout the site is primarily on grade, serving individual parcels and uses as necessary. Structured parking adjacent to the Monorail Station provides spaces that may be shared by Park & Ride participants and Shopping Mall visitors. Primary parking for the Shopping Mall is found along its southern façade.''

How will our leaders looters have another opportunity to steal from us without such spurious schemes?
It is not unlikely that there is a similar capacity place built recently for less amount, even in high cost profile countries.

National Arts Theatre should be like the O2 in London.
Under proper management, it should generate revenue
and create jobs.............
Instead of our artiste exporting their talents going to sell out 02
and paying taxes to the queen.........
We need to embrace our own......A good line up of shows and artiste around the
festive period in december or in the summer....will generate a lot of revenue
for airports, hotels, beach access, restaurants and night life.
Thats how you grow the economy.

Even better make it a public listed company....file an IPO, try to run it at a profit
Both government and private patronage.....share the proceeds back as net profit
Give the citizens a sense of ownership.....

If we dont start thinking like a capitalist society, we will always depend on government to build
infastructures
I am glad to see we have other brilliant minds like yours on this forum
