Blackout Worsens As National Grid Suffers Second Collapse Within 48 Hours by treesun(op): 9:02pm On Mar 15, 2022
Some parts of the country were on Tuesday thrown into darkness following another system collapse of the National Grid.

The Head, Corporate Communications, Ikeja Electric Plc, Mr Felix Ofulue, confirmed the development to the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos.

Eko Electricity Distribution Company also confirmed the partial collapse of the grid in a public notice.

The Electricity Distribution Companies said the collapse of the grid occurred at 5.10 p.m on Tuesday.

They said the collapse had disrupted power supply within their networks with their customers experiencing blackouts.

“Dear esteemed customers, we would like to inform you of another system collapse on the national grid which occurred at 5:10 p.m today (Tuesday).

“We are monitoring the situation and will continue to provide updates.

Once again we apologise for the inconvenience,” Eko DisCo said in a statement.

On his part, Ofulue said Ikeja Electric had received notification of the collapse and was waiting for the grid to be restored.

NAN reports that the collapse is happening barely 48 hours after the national grid collapsed at 10.40 a.m on Monday resulting in blackouts in some parts of the country.

Supply was, however, restored to the grid at 12.20 p.m by the Transmission Company of Nigeria.

This is not a problem. Let them keep difibrilator and bucket of water standby beside the grid so that any time it collapses again they can quicky revive without stress

An oil-producing nation...yet no light or fuel. Refineries have been rendered useless and the power grid is in a sorry state. This country is just one big failed experiment.

Anyone who can afford to acquire a solar power solution to their home's electrical needs should not hesitate to do so, regardless of whether they reside in Lagos Nigeria, or Los Angeles California.

While the initial cost of installing solar power is substantial, and bearing in mind that the deep cycle batteries of solar power installations have a lifespan of just 4-years before replacements are mandatory, the recurrent expenses of fueling generators, and repairing them while enduring their horrendous noise and air pollution, still vastly outweigh the cumulative monetary cost of going fully solar.

An associate of mine residing in the California High Desert town of Lancaster, where daytime temperatures can run well over 100 degrees Fahrenheit for several months a year, operates his home's central air conditioner for free every day of summer, due to his solar power installation of many years. Another acquaintance who returned to Nigeria from the USA some years back has NO electrical cables connected to his house from any electricity provider and relies ENTIRELY on his solar power setup for constant power around the clock and year-round.

The electricity supply shortfall of Nigeria is likely to be resolved no later than the good year 3,999, all else being equal. The question for any person residing in Nigeria is obviously whether or not they are prepared to wait that long for constant power in their homes.

Failed government. Failed British experiment. I thought that cone headed Afonja man called Fashola told us that providing constant electricity wasn't a rocket science. Same idiot is still part of this failed government

Re: Blackout Worsens As National Grid Suffers Second Collapse Within 48 Hours by Nobody:
Even with the high tariffs that makes multiple homes manage electricity to barely bulbs and fridge, you still barley see light..

It obviously means, even if the whole Nigeria decides to turn off all its energy appliance, there would still not be light.

When you see national grid, you will think it's the entire country that was affected. However, it's just a few places in Lagos and other states that were affected.

I have seen a video on YouTube in which a Ghanaian man says his company produces hybrid airconditioners that run on both solar and grid power. Solar-powered AC is great especially for us here. I have seen solar fridges and deep freeers, but yet to see solar ACs. Please does anyone knows where solar- powered airconditioners are sold in Nigeria?
