It's Possible, but first the hill to prove himself worthy of graduate admissions would be steep...

1- Research Experience is very important: He needs to show this either by working in labs, writing research papers or as a research assistant. Being able to show experience in research is very crucial, regardless of a third class. Especially in a STEM discipline.

2- GRE scores and GMAT scores; these exams need to be Bombed literally to justify getting admitted with a low GPA.

3- Professional experience: significant work experience in a renowned establishment can further help the case.

4- Strong Recommendation letters; There has to be very strong recommendation letters from academicians or professional recommendations which point out the strengths of the individual seeking admissions to a grad degree.

5- Compelling SOP; the Statement of Purpose has to also be convincing on the motivation to go for a grad degree

6- Professional certifications: PMP certifications and other recognizable professional certifications also help, as regards to the study discipline

7- Personal achievements: This needs to be specifically highlighted on the Resume, meaning; the resume has to be very detailed in listing personal accomplishments that are impressive... basically portraying academic and professional progression regardless of a third-class degree

In essence, it is possible but as you can see, the road is quite steep

As far as I know. No, most universities with high amount of application would hardly have space for a third class. He may need to do some post-graduate certifications and Work experience. Also one can do some pre-master degrees like postgraduate diploma etc.

Lastly speak to the school support. They would provide the best answer

Immediately I saw Lincoln university, I knew it was you and not your brother. You are just looking for short cut , that school is even a red flag at US embassy. There are thousands of schools in the US that will accept your third class( it depends on your GPA) all you need to do is to research on schools, check their requirements and send a short email to them.

Me: Yes, you can, because that is exactly what happened with me.

I came out with a 3rd class. I was not happy about it. But that did not deter me from applying. And I got admission offers for master's program in not just one, but two different schools.

What you can do is send your bachelor's transcript to WES or any accredited evaluators for evaluation. The GPA system in the US is based on a 4.0 scale, as against Nigeria which is 5.0. This can boost up your GPA especially if you or your "brother" had a high 3rd class. I came out with a 2.23 third class GPA, but when I sent my transcript for evaluation to WES, it boosted me up to a 3.0, which was enough to get me admission.

There are numerous school in the US offering Master program to 2:2 degree holders.

Some doesn't even require IELTS/GRE, if your undergraduate degree was taught in English.

What masters courses are available to a graduate of English in this instance? You seem knowledgeable about this.

With a good GRE score yes you can do masters in some schools in USA but I've not heard of Lincoln University so I don't know if it's one of these Unis that the embassy won't give you visa for

Is your brother smart and was just unserious in school ending up with that third class? My smart friend partied in Nigeria and ended up getting the same. His dad sent him abroad for his master’s degree, he sat up, and did well. He now has a great job abroad (six figures).

he will need to evaluate his results before they determine where to put him. His 3rd class can be a 2nd class or a pass or fail. It depends on the evaluation.

California is very expensive to live in.. your dad will pay more for him to live .. try texas ; pay is good, opportunity to grow in any sector as a black man, standard of living is affordable, good weather.. Texas A&M is a good school.

Or go to Massachusetts; known as a very good state when it comes to education. Education at its peak. White environment ( racism is there), cold will kill you, pay is good, housing can be slightly expensive, it is beautiful. You cannot grow as a black man in their jobs( a few gets to the top), the job market is one sided.. it is not like California or Texas where you can go into IT, oil and gas, energy and other sectors(it is vast). For higher institutions, try BU (Boston University) or Salem state university ( this should be cheaper but still costly)

I personally don't rate their degree higher than ours with the way Nigerians do well over there

He shouldn't have a problem if he can prove beyond reasonable doubt that he is coming back(even if na wash).

And don't know if you believe in this but,many people don't go for visa interview with ordinary eyes.
