Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and his government can offer the removal of international sanctions against Russia in exchange for peace, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Sunday on NBC's Meet the Press.

"Does President Zelensky — does he have the ability to negotiate sanctions relief with Putin?" host Chuck Todd asked Blinken.

"Our focus is on making sure we're doing everything possible to strengthen Ukraine's hand at the negotiating table," Blinken responded.

When Todd pressed him on the question of sanctions relief, Blinken clarified. "The entire international community has come together to impose those sanctions on Russia. We'll be looking to see what Ukraine is doing and what it wants to do," he said. "And if concludes that it can bring this war to an end, stop the death and destruction, and continue to assert its independence and its sovereignty, and ultimately that requires the lifting of sanctions, of course, we will allow that."

Later in the show, Todd posed a similar question to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. "You heard Secretary Blinken essentially say, 'Look, sanctions relief could happen. It all depends on the behavior of Russia.' Can we really live in a world where Putin's let back into the New World Order?" he asked.

"Well, that's not what I heard him say," Clinton responded. "What I heard him say was that, really, we are going to support the Ukrainians — the people and the government of Ukraine — as they try to figure out what, for them, is the best way forward. And that, I think, is exactly the right position for the United States, Europe and the West, and other countries to take."

It’s as simple as that.

The longer this war goes on, the worse it’s going to be for Russia. It may do good for the country in the long run, if it sees the end of Putin’s gangster regime. Unfortunately there’s going to be a lot of pain for the people of Russia, and those of Ukraine in the meantime.

With all the damage that is being done in Ukraine, I hope the alliance that is (rightly) supporting Ukraine in the defence of their nation in time of war will somehow help in rebuilding the infrastructure afterwards..

Germany reportedly refused to supply Ukraine with 100 Marder Armoured Personnel Carriers last week.

It's like they thought China and India would yield under pressure from them, which they term the "world", to sanction Russia. they even threatened China with sanctions if they refused to sanction Russia, but I'm happy they stood their ground. Instead of imposing sanctions, they are even treading more, and getting oil from Russia at discount prices, while Europeans run to other countries who sell at cheaper rates to buy. Imagine crossing borders to other countries just to get cheap fuel. Wahala

Your head dey there!!! The most telling was the energy backed ruble. The US would do anything to protect petrodollar. Now trying to make it look like it’s up to zelensky, so as not to look weak. They really miscalculated , they imposed the most audacious sanctions the world has ever seen, played all cards in quick succession in hopes of bringing Russia to its knees. Unfortunately, it boomeranged against them.

The funny thing is that there is nothing anyone can do about this anymore. They have exhausted all their options.

That more than 10,000 car drive March in Germany recently sent shivers down the government spine.
