Ukraine's Mariupol city has been '90%' destroyed after being besieged by Russian forces, the mayor says.

The Ukrainian port city of Mariupol in the south-east of the country has been "90%" destroyed after being besieged by Russian forces, its mayor Vadym Boichenko said Monday.

"The sad news is that 90% of the infrastructure in the city is destroyed and 40% is unrecoverable," Boichenko told a press conference.

Around 130,000 people remained trapped in the city, which continues to be pounded by Russian bombardments, he said.

Approximately half a million people lived in the city on the coast of the Sea of Azov before the outbreak of the war.

"The Russian army is brutally destroying Mariupol," Boichenko said.

"The bombings are incessant," the mayor said, with the notable use of "multiple rocket launchers."

According to Boichenko, the majority of the attacks on the city were coming "from the sea," where "Russian ships" were stationed.

"We are planning to evacuate the remaining residents, but we cannot do it today," he said.

Russia and Ukraine have blamed each other for the difficulties encountered by recent evacuation attempts.

Mariupol has been under siege from Russian forces for over a month, leaving the population to fend for themselves in conditions that have been denounced by the international community.

It's a shame Ukrainians where decived by the propaganda of the west to elect a political novice into their highest seat of authority, now the whole citizens are feeling the repercussion of their decisions meanwhile the commedian in chief and his family are safe somewhere with billions of dollars in their bank account.

The question is, is it OK to consider Mariupol as part of Ukraine?

The people of the Mariupol, as well as other Donetsk region have asked Ukraine for a referendum to have their independence in peace if Ukraine still insist on being hostile to Russia who they (DPR) share a lot with but the Ukrainian Government have been denying them that right.

A war of Independence was started in 2014 which lasted for years (though guerilla style after failed open warfare). Ukraine succeeded in suppressing them until the Russian invasion.

So you see, Russian invasion is seen by the people of this region as well as Luhansk as a big brother coming to the rescue.

You know that kind of fight that you are being pummelled and with your remaining strength you looked up and saw you elder brother running towards the scene like John Cena.

Umm. I used to support Ukraine but the way things are going. I'm thinking about Ukraine is all alone in this. It's time they call of the war. America and uk should back off as well if then can not support with military action. They are keeping their country safe and scared to interfere but yet they are pushing Ukraine to continue. The sanctions are not working. Putin knows all this before the war.
