Extortion Going On In Muritala Mohamed Airport by DispatcherLagos(op):
It's no news that men of the Nigeria police force will always find means of extorting the masses anywhere they are posted to serve.

First of all, I am one of the people that frequent NAHCO and SAHCO on weekly basis to send goods to different parts of the world. Most times I go with my car or simply hire a taxi to convey me especially when I have voluminous shipment to do.

Recently, I started going on the usual airport taxis or danfo from oshodi because of small items I used to send( mostly in 1 small carton). So I only stop at the pilgrimage gate and have those guys that "hustle" there carry my item to either NAHCO or SAHCO.

However, during my first time of using this means, if you are familiar with this area you know that there is a police post where items are checked before you are allowed into the premises. After cross checking my package, the officer on duty told me to pay #200 and I was like "what for" ? And he claimed that it's the norm over there after some deliberations I reluctantly gave him the #200 and proceeded to my destination(NAHCO).

This has continued for more than 20 times that I went there without a cab or a car and I didn't take it as anything(after all na just 2h). However, to my outermost surprise, I went there on Tuesday (last Tuesday) to send an item, and after the usual cross checking, the officer on duty told me to pay #500 instead of the usual #200. I told him I can't pay such amount for just one carton and that the best I can do is to pay him the usual #200 and he refused and the argument went on for over 40 minutes. When I noticed he was unyielding to my pleas and arguments, I parted with my #500 and I promised him I will do something about it.... thinking it was a case of a greedy officer.

To my greatest surprise, I visited there on Saturday again to send some items, this time a female officer was on seat and just like her colleague, she insisted I pay #500 for just two cartons of food items. She boldly told me that things are increasing in price in Nigeria and I want them to keep collecting just #200 and I was like wtf are you not being paid from my tax? At this point she became aggressive and ordered the Aboki carrying my luggage to take it away. I finally paid the #500 and delivered my order.

However, I want to bring this gross extortion to the knowledge of the public and if possible request for advice on how and where to report this criminals on uniform to prevent this act. Because if I don't, I'm sure before the year runs out, we may be paying as much as 1k to them just to export small items.

Pardon my grammar/typos. Thanks

Every govt agencies are corrupt.

This is front page worthy ...... Please mod be ASAP about this . @OP the mistake you did is take ur phone with you next time and record any of those shady deals . Put ur phone in ur ear as if u re calling and ensure the camera is videoing those criminals and don't allow them see u Or better still look for shirt with left chest pocket plant ur phone in it while recording them , then put it on Twitter and nairaland afterwards. There is a lot going inside the Hajicamp also known as cargo

What if he's in the know ? The best bet is to shame them by recording the activities with phone
