Giulia Tofana,was an Italian professional poisoner,she sold a poison called Aqua Tofana(supposedly invented by Teofania do Adamo,who may have been Giulia's mother),to women who wanted to murder their husbands.
According to one version of events,Giulia fled to Rome and set up a poisoning ring then began to sell these poisons to women who wanted to escape abusive or inconvenient spouses.
There may have been six women in this poisoning ring active in the1650s including Girolama Spara,eh took over after Giulia's death.
The deadly poison Aqua Tofana came in a pretty bottle,it was colourless,odourless and tasteless.And for almost 20 years in the17the century Italy,hundreds of women used it to stealthily kill their husbands.
Giulia confessed to killing over 600 men from 1633 to 1651 in Rome alone,though that number could be lower or (higher) given that her confession came under duress.
Her poison was a bestseller during the sales.
It was believed that Giulia died in her sleep or was killed.
