God bless this great Yoruba man. ❤️
A Hero indeed.

He named Nigeria’s national currency as ‘Naira',
Introduced free primary education for all and free HEALTHCARE for children in the Western Region.
He established the first television station in Africa in 1959.
He built Cocoa House (still the tallest in Ibadan).

Cnferred by President Shehu Shagari with the title of the Grand Commander of the Federal Republic (GCFR), the first and only non-president to be so honoured in the history of Nigeria.

First Man to ever be named Leader of the Yorubas (Yoruba: Asiwaju Omo Oodua).

The best President Nigeria never had.
Minister of Local Government and Finance and first Premier of the Western Region under Nigeria’s parliamentary system, from 1952 to 1959.

He founded the Nigerian Tribune, the oldest surviving private Nigerian newspaper.

The party he founded, Action Group was the first to move the motion for Nigeria’s independence in the federal parliament and he obtained internal self-government for the Western Region in 1957.

The University of Ife was renamed Obafemi Awolowo University.

Pictured on the 100 naira banknote.

RIP GREAT MAN. Your People Will Rule Again.

It is 35 years today that the late sage, OBAFEMI AWOLOWO went to the great beyond. A philosopher, scientist, politician, father, businessman, he was the brain behind the free education program that was dolled out in the south Western part of Nigeria in the 1950s.

He has written his name in the heart of many Nigerians, especially the Yorubas, till the world ends. His greatness stem from the fact that the late Ojukwu referred to him as the Best president Nigeria never had. Also he was given the highest honour that any ordinary civilian, but only an ex-president could have by the Shagari regime.

He is my political hero, someone I have always admired so much. The only thing that I am not happy about is the fact that he died before I was born.

You might have something good to say about this man, tell us.
Please, what killed him?
