Nairobi has 23 100m +. don't rely on wiki to feed you with info about Nairobi.

Nairobi dwarfs all the cities in SA except Joburg.
But for Kenya to catch up to the current level of SA - as a whole, maybe we need 50yrs.

But that is not the point. No one is comparing Kenya with SA. we made a simple estimate that Nai will one day catch up with Joburg, going by the dynamic in infrastructure progress. But your weak emotional boy Austine has caught feelings with that.

He's now calling me a pighead. grin
Not 50yrs maybe 10yrs if we get another infrastructure minded president like Uhuru kenyatta but we're catching up faster than expected

Ahhh ok. I was thinking 2 years would have been more better, because by then, you guys might have added 60,000km of paved roads, built about 50 sky crappers, also by then kibera would have been fully demolished and rebuilt into a beautiful neighborhood.

Always wondered with South Korea and Japan work ethic it also baffles me why Japan's economy has stagnated for 30 years and korea is kidnapped by family businesses
ACTUALLY the US, or rather David Rockefeller who thought it was growing too fast and pulled the handbrake via the Plaza Accords leading to decades long stagflation.

How the Plaza Accord helped the US destroy the Japanese economy

Mpesa revenue grew by a whopping 30% to hit 107B.
Safaricom service revenue grew by 12.3% to hit 281B
Safaricom revenue grew by 12.9% to hit 298B
IIRC it was ONLY 3 yrs ago we told these Waffas Safaricom market cap would hit 12 bn $ and surpass their own fav telecom whose name escapes me?
They characteristically screamed and threw things while secretly chanting voodoo spells to prevent the inevitable. You can guess what happened!
Seen this?

Safaricom’s US$15.4bn market capitalisation accounts for 49% of the market capitalisation of the Top 30 companies, making it the highest prized brand in the region.
https://africa.businessinsider.com/local/markets/safaricom-ranked-the-most-valuable-firm-in-east-africa-by-market-cap/dj5wj00

In large part this was due to mpesa, a national, regional, continental and global gamechanger.

You seem bamboozled because you think light rails are more expensive & superior to SGRS, but I don't blame you.

Kenya's SGR is 1st class - Ethiopia and TZ are building 2nd class.

Back to your Ethiopian light rail:

"Review by the Office of the Auditor General found that, during its first four years, the system took in $11.1 million but cost $154 million to operate.

“The feasibility study has been inadequate, and it was conducted without collecting enough information,” the auditor general analysis stated. “This, coupled with the absence of a maintenance center to fix the trains that need repair and other factors, have contributed to the losses sustained by the light railway.”

The light rail transit (LRT) is part of a list of Chinese-sponsored Belt and Road Initiative projects in Africa that have failed to live up to their Chinese-written feasibility studies and saddled host nations with massive debts.

The Ethiopian Railway Corporation (ERC), which runs Addis Ababa’s LRT system, borrows from the state-owned Commercial Bank of Ethiopia to pay off the $475 million construction loan to the China Export-Import Bank, which financed 85% of the project. The ERC has already paid $2.8 million in fines to the bank for late payments, according to the report.

The system began operating in 2016 with 40 trains, but regularly runs about half that number. Addis Ababa’s deputy mayor noted in 2018 that the city’s electrical grid lacked the capacity to power the system before construction began. Even with its own dedicated power supply, the LRT still experiences outages and delays, leading to packed cars and poor service.

The health care demands related to COVID-19 have forced Ethiopia and countries across Africa to choose between protecting their citizens and paying their debts to China. Because those debts are often through state-supported commercial banks, nations have struggled to get Chinese authorities to provide them with relief.

Ethiopia asked the G20 international forum in January for relief on its government-issued debt, prompting Fitch Ratings to downgrade its credit rating.

Even before the pandemic hit, Ethiopia was seeking relief in 2018 on its Chinese debt. It got some — a 20-year extension on repaying the $4 billion loan to build the Ethiopia-Djibouti Railway, another Chinese project that has come up short of expectations.

Kenya can build them, but how profitable is it for our economy? THINK! don't just argue like a street dunce.
Ati it rtook in 11 mn $ but cost ALMOST 14x operationally!? That's DEF unsustainable! I was wondering about those 15 cent US fares. I rmbr even the Djibouti line was regularly interrupted by blackouts and camels and stopped operating during the civil war.
