I have been waiting since 9 am. Got disconnected about two times.

Wow!!!

I really cannot stay on the call that long as I had to excuse myself from work to get a good place for the call.

I wish there was someone we can reach out to to get the exact DateTime.

I was scheduled for June 01 by mail, my portal showed May 31st by 9am.
I got an invite for may 30 by 9:45am and got another mail for may 30 by 9am.

I've been trying to do my interview since Monday. I've been connected since past 8 till 10, no response.

God help us all.

It seems PTDF did not arrange properly for the virtual sessions. Am afraid that some virtual candidates might miss out from this excercise.

They ought to have provided adequate support to resolve issues within a short time .

Keep trying to connect.

All those for virtual, stay calm and be patient. The process is no different from us that did in centres with regards to the wait time.

Even in venues, you have to wait fir someone else to finish no matter the time yours was slated.

I'll advice you get the link and login and wait irrespective of the time and date you were given. The earlier the better.

And, be the first to click the link in the morning and wait.

Goodluck.

Quick one for virtual sessions. While you sign on do not forget to actually click the Join Meeting button.

You are not waiting for a meeting until the interface says something like "Waiting" or some msg to let you know. So don't forget to click the Join button after signing on.

This Ms teams differs from Zooms one click sign in.

I am for PhD. I received a link for 2nd June and they changed the date on the portal to 10 June 9am. Still very confusing on the arrangement
Please ensure you follow the date and time in the link sent to you. I had same case with you. Invite links said 1st June, mail and dashboard saying different things. I logged in about 12)3 mins to the time I was scheduled for and in less than 7mins, I was allowed in. The interview was smooth. All thanks to Jesus!

My observation from Abuja centre yesterday

1. The grading system seems different from the MSc

2. The panelists seems to just resumed that yesterday for the work and some of them are professor from the university

3. Patent is considered and not publications

4. Maximum of 5 professional certifications

May success be ours

I have to share my interview experience, it was bad, I mean very bad but wasn't my fault anyway.

So I went in to meet a 2-man panel. They were of course other panels having 3 persons but when it was my turn, it was the panel with 2 persons that were empty and had requested for an applicant. I was feeling lucky believing I had 2 persons to deal with without knowing it was a bad omen for me. grin grin grin

So they checked all my documents, everything was fine, I had everything with me, but not the panelist. So when it was time for me to present, all hell broke loose. I couldn't believe they were people in this generation and a professor in that matter that haven't heard of nuclear. The very moment I mentioned Nuclear (it doesn't matter how I want to apply the nuclear), he stopped me and said "Nuclear in this Nigeria??" The professor was a very old man with little or no knowledge of the current research. I mentioned the use of Monte Carlo Neutron Transport Codes, but he head of only Monte Carlo and chuckled, saying it was what they used 40-50 years ago shocked shocked Haba, Prof. Calm down and listen nah, but he wasn't having any of it.

I mentioned nuclear waste management, and cleaning of oil spillage, he interrupted me and questioned how can I be mentioning nuclear waste in energy management. He even questioned if nuclear has waste? Jesus, I couldn't believe what happened yesterday. grin grin It was very funny anyway.

So that was how it went yesterday. It was bad with Prof. But then you don't blame him, Prof. didn't believe Ajaokuta steel can work, he said I should forget about what the government was saying that its a scam and just a consultancy project. He was very proud, but I reminded him that the reason why Geregu powerplant was sited very close to Ajaokuta was to supply electricity to the plant. I told him everything he needs to be convinced but then, his mind was made up and I can't change that. Prof. didn't know that Nigeria currently produce 4000MWe of electricity, when I told him that he said it was not true, I told him to check the internet.

He said the only thing that the government should do is to produce energy from Gas, and that Gas is a clean source of energy. We went to Germany where he mentioned that they shut down all their reactors and I told him that they were importing 34% of their electricity demand from France, he said it wasn't true, I told him it was and that the internet is there for him to check. And now asked him what he thinks Germany will do now with the Ukraine Was and stoppage of the gas flow, he got the point anyway.

Well, it was bad with Prof. but the second guy was amazed though openly didn't want to disagree with Prof. manner, so when Prof. went to fetch his tea, we had a good discussion and he even told me to wait and greet Prof. before I leave.

In summary, it wasn't smooth but then, there is nothing to worry about. If I get it fine, if I didn't get it, next year, I will meet prof. again.

In Summary, the action and attitude of one of the panelist yesterday was very bad. I know this for the following reason

1. Even if Prof. wasn't satisfied or convinced, he doesn't need to behave like the Nigeria lecturer that I was running away from. It behooves on him to remain calm, listen more, advice, recommend and suggest good ways to do the same. This is what is called constructive criticism. But it's common among Nigerians to look down on others especially when he/she thinks he's in a higher position. In 2017, I was a member of the World Bank Consultancy Project on Nigeria electricity issues, I interviewed all the heads of Nigerian Bulk Electricity Company (NBET), the government agency that manages the production and distribution of electricity. So when Prof. was busy talking anyhow, he has no understanding of what is going on in the Generation side (GenCo) and distribution side (DisCo). He was just full of himself which was very bad.

2. Panelists should have an open mind. Of course in such scholarship, it's possible to see some weird ideas but this is 21st century, everything is possible and impossibility only exist in the mind. Someone who sits in such panel should be open to things he doesn't know, he should also be open to innovations and to learn too. One thing you will see abroad from lecturers is their humility. Irrespective of their years of experience, they are very humble and this is why they have good lecturer to student relationship. Prof. was everything a lecturer shouldn't be.

Yesterday, I didn't feel bad because of his possible grading (it means nothing to me, I know that the concept of winning and losing very well), but the entire process and the country having such kind of lecturers. While he was busy criticizing what he doesn't understand, I was busy pitying his students and imagining what it's like being mentored by people like this.

My own prof and the panelists doesn't know what pigging is all about and to even think of it that they don't even understand what artificial intelligent is capable of doing despite the explanation... They just believe you can't do it because you are not copying paper or textbook page to page.... We need to reshape our higher education lecturers

Yes bro. I was in the Tower yesterday.

I just dread Nigerian lecturers in whatever form they come except those that have an open mind or who knows what lecturing or teaching ought to be. The things I was mentioning to him is being done in South Africa, Indonesia, etc. Its not even like I was saying things that isn't real or being done.

The Prof. was just being destructive and vengeful yesterday. Things he ought to know which he doesn't know was what got me mad.

It seems there's a different batch of interviewers for the second week. I really don't understand the incorrigibility of Nigerian lecturers. It sucks that students have to learn from masochists who actively derive gratification from their failure. I think that's a very important dichotomy between Nigerian Institutions and that of other countries. Lecturers there want you to succeed. However, as far as this interview goes, you should be more concerned with the person entering the grades and it seems in your case it was the more affable panelist so hopefully he was considerate. I'm sure by then he would've known how truculent the prof was. Have a little bit of faith.

For me, It was the opposite. I wanted a two man panel, got the most feared three man panel at the center because of a notorious professor I overheard someone being warned about. I went in, I was polite, so were they. The professor was very quiet and seemed impressed but I'm slightly worried because the main panelist grading the interview was not very engaged. I spoke, they listened with very little push back and we had a very amiable discussion about a variety of issues in the energy sector. Not to draw the ire of the anti north conspiracy theorists here but we even spoke a bit of Hausa at their instigation.

At the end of the day I'm okay with the whole thing, it could've been slightly better because I didn't get to say everything I wanted to before being interrupted by new questions but it could've been a lot worse. In fact, they spontaneously assured me that the interview went well but in my mind I'm thinking so did that of many others in many centers around the country so I took it with a pinch of salt. We exchanged pleasantries and I left. A friend who got the scholarship told me as long as your programme is related to energy, they just want to hear how articulate you are. Like you, I have resigned myself to destiny. I have my CAS ready, and I have my contingencies ready. I'm prepared for whatever outcome.

In my experience, one panelist grades your documents but barring the selection of O'level subjects, your scores there are standardized so there's little to worry about. Another panelist grades the subjective SOP/Proposal part of the assessment though others might ask impromptu questions. That's the part you should be most worried about.

Yes, maybe at the emboldened if and only if he's grading the everything including SOP. The guy was very nice and we discussed about France and he said he will see me soon. I told him that 'I hope so.'

Everything you said is true, there's a very big disconnect between lecturers and students. It's very bad for a lecturer to have his entire education in Nigeria, because when they do, they'd think the world is like the system that groomed them. They become exact replica of what they went through and I think it's so for Prof. He had a closed mindset and he thinks everything is what he knows. But the truth is, he could be a Prof. of Mechanical engineering but may not even be a graduate Assistant in other fields. Hence the reason he should be very open. In France, we reported a lecturer that was not even as close as Prof. We were not understanding what he was teaching and we reported him and he was removed. How much more if we had a Prof-like lecturer.

In all, the second guy graded everything, but I think it will be Prof. that will grade the SOP or maybe the two of them. But then Prof. was entering my O-Level before the guy stepped in and he (Prof.) gave it to him but retained the SOP. Whichever way, it's best not to put mind in him but retain some little faith like you have proposed.

I am bit relieved to hear other people say that their area of research is on the energy sector. I felt bad when a friend told me that that should have discussed only about the oil and gas sector because that is all ptdf cares about. I have heard so much that l literally only believe in the miracle of God . May God help us.

Prof. didn't know that Nigeria currently produce 4000MWe of electricity, when I told him that he said it was not true, I told him to check the internet.

If I get it fine, if I didn't get it, next year, I will meet prof. again.

From a psychological point of view, I must say you did well by holding on to what you know as truth. Sometimes, an interviewer might intentionally wish to test your level of confidence and knowledge of a subject matter by resorting to playing "mind games" to see if you will back off.

You have nothing to fear.

Amakaaaaa:
I am bit relieved to hear other people say that their area of research is on the energy sector. I felt bad when a friend told me that that should have discussed only about the oil and gas sector because that is all ptdf cares about. I have heard so much that l literally only believe in the miracle of God . May God help us.

If all they cared about was oil and gas they wouldn't list and sponsor courses on Nuclear engineering, renewable energy, etc. The best way to know the variety of programmes they sponsor is to look at the past lists of successful candidates.

Results usually take 5 to 6 weeks from the last day of the interview. We should be expecting results anytime from middle to ending of next month. May we be among the successful ones.

It really shouldn't take too long to process these interviews given everything is computerized. Unfortunately everything has to go through the rigmarole of Nigerian ineffeciency and corruption. If they can expedite the process to have results come out before Eid that would be swell but given past patterns also unprecedented. My best estimate like I stated before would be a week or two after Eid.
