Hello Landers, I'm gonna be doing this for brainstorms from likeminds, we all catch cruise at spare times but it's time to get to work. On this backdrop, I want to appeal to all of us to forget the mouthy bashes we have engaged in.

Here, I will be taking us through my farm on a daily or weekly basis. Land has been cleared, heaped and planted but I don't take pictures (practical farmers don't do it for picture purposes) but from morrow, we will be uploading pictures

MAKING POTATOES COMPATIBLE WITH MAIZE

Normally, potatoes and Maize are non compatible crops as the crops shed potatoes from sunlight thereby reducing productivity because the potatoes need sunlight for seed/tuber production. However, in a 3hectre farmland, I mixed potatoes with maize. Making this possible, I made sure that each heap has just one or two holes with 2, 1 or 3 seeds of maize planted to avoid much population. Even at this, there is two paints of maize completely planted.

PLANTING OF POTATOES

Adult potatoes vines can get as long as 30cm
During planting, heaps are made then the potatoes are cut shorter. 3 to 4 nodes per vine as shown in the picture below

I will be uploading activities on weekly basis from now till harvest

These vines are drought/ pest resistant as their attack on it means nothing. It continues sprouting and producing regardless.

MAIZE PLANTING

Before planting the maize seeds, I boiled water, brought it down and poured the maize seeds inside.

The second and third days of planting, we poured the maize inside a container and brought to the full glare of the sun to heat while we process vines to be warebllled in the farm. When we were done in about 4hrs, we started planting.

The maize were planted on the 14th, 15th and 16th of April and they are looking so good today.
No fertilizers, nothing.

Note: if you are following this method

(1) Do not plant in a water logged land
(2) Do not plant on a day it rained to avoid decay due to excessive take up of water by the seeds
(3) Do not allow the seeds to dry up again, plant immediately

Do you mean you soaked the maize in water for 3 days. If so what is the importance, does it have to be hot water, can cold water do same. Many thanks.

Pasteurized water. Not too hot to cook.

No, not three days but some hours (6) preferable or overnight but plant the next day.
Soak in a a container that will contain the new size cos it will swell.

Cold water can but give it a warm environment as planted seeds love warm but wet environment during germination. That's why maize doesn't do well when the soil is cold, from late June/ early July

The importance is what you are seeing with your eyes.

Once the seed has gotten signal to germinate, germination sets in with sprouting fastracked

Follow the next thread as I'm going to update from soaking to harvest. Coming next week or on 17th May
