Appeal Court Affirms Okey Nwosu’s Conviction

Attempt by the former managing director of the defunct FinBank Plc, Mr. Okey Nwosu[s][/s] and Dayo Famoroti to set aside their conviction by Justice Lateefa Okunnu of the Lagos High Court literally hit the rock today June 8, 2022 as the Court of Appeal sitting at Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos upheld their conviction as well as the three years jail terms slammed on them.

However, the appellate court reduced the restitution order made from Eighteen Billion Naira to Ten Billion Naira on the grounds that the bank (FinBank Plc.) had recovered about Eight Billion Naira.

Justice Okunnu, had in January 2021 convicted and sentenced Okey Nwosu and Famoroti to three years imprisonment over N19.2 billion fraud.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) prosecuted Nwosu alongside Dayo Famoroti, Agnes Ebubedike and Danjuma Ocholi on a 26-count amended charge bordering on stealing and illegal conversion to the tune of N19.2 billion.

The defendants were said to have perpetrated the fraud while they were directors of the bank.

When we say the economy is bad it doesn't mean money grew wings and flew away. What it means is that the money that was meant to cater for a larger section of the society was diverted into the pocket of a few and that money is what these politicians have been sharing since Buhari took office.

How does one finish 19.2Bn Naira? People steal money without the fear of God. This is asides their allowances which they were paid for handsomely at the time o.

Okunnu gives sound judgments. I wasn’t expecting an overturn of the judgment

Past events should have overtaken this.

Whatever rule made former Bank of the North MD enjoy presidential pardon should apply to others. Nobody must be made to suffer the wrath of the law just because of his ethnicity.

Same thing applies to conviction of past governors and other office holders.

This ur story sef.
1 . U worked under him- as what, in a branch or directly under him on his office?
2. He ate ur benefits- u weren't paid your salaries?
3. He made u contract staff- how exactly did he do that? Every Nigerian bank has an outsourcing system in place.
4 they should return what belong to u former finbank staff- I ask again, u were not paid salaries?

I'm not in support of the ex MD for fraud, but I know former staff of finbank had better benefits under him than with FCMB so this your claim get as e be.
Do enlighten us.
