Phone Theft: My Sad Experience by Tripleoluwa(op): 12:40pm On Jun 17, 2022
On the 10th of June this year, just last week friday, someone stole my phone and withdrew all my savings from my GTB account. How he did it still baffle me. My ATM was with me. He only stole phone. The thief transfered my money to a GTB account: 0452658094 and (GTB Impersonal Ledger) was the reciever name.

I ran like a mad man to GTB. After everything, they said the account is a wallet one thing one thing and it has been blocked. I am left with just #82.00 in my account. My money can't be retrieved because it has been withdrawn.. In fact ehn, i felt like i should just go far away and never come back

I have a baby coming on the way in few months..

Your story doesn’t add up, why did you covered up the amount the thief or scammer withdrawn

I didn't want to share that part. The part i want to share is how my phone was stolen and my money gone. The error i made was not locking my phone but my sim card has password. I dont like putting password on my phone. That was how the thief had access to my money.

I still find it hard to believe because i only hear of such. I thought i left the phone in my car initially.

I retrieved my number this week's Tuesday. My older sis borrowed me her 2nd phone. So I downloaded back the apps I usually use

Please don’t use Face ID or fingerprint to approve your bank app login. Always use a password so you know it’s just in your head. And try to block /freeze your accounts immediately after losing your phone

My condolences.

Fingerprint is actually the safest, jsyk. Your password can be hacked

They are the same in this aspect. The thief can access your settings and add his face or fingerprint once he knows the password of the phone.

And by the way FACE ID ( on Apple phones ) >>> fingerprint. The only thing closest is Samsung’s iris scanner

Feel free to argue

These are common thieves not sophisticated thieves

Face ID >>> fingerprint

And you didn’t get my point too

Nothing to argue about here, i'm glad you also know face ID and fingerprint is safer than passwords. Bye!

So you know they can access your phone's settings once they know your password, then why are you advising them to use passwords inplace of fingerprints and face ID?

Confusion is your name, oga.

For the bank app sir. I’m not confused. We are talking about the bank app here and not the phone. It’s painful to lose your phone but it’s more painful to lose your phone and money together

Depends on the power of the password sir. Mixture of capital letters , numbers and characters will frustrate almost anyone

Yeah, you are right sir. You know once they gain access to the phone everything inside can be easily compromised so the best thing is to secure the first entry.

Yes. That’s why I said it’s better to use a password to access the bank app and people need to know how to lock their SIM cards as it makes it harder for the thief

Even on bank apps, password isn't the safest option. Putting a sim lock is very okay too, once they input an incorrect pin for three times they'd be requested to insert PUK
