The EU has approved the Ukraine application to become a candidate country for admission to the 27-strong bloc. EU leaders met in Brussels and followed the recommendation of the European Commission, that was made on Friday 17 June.

Meanwhile, The United States is expected to provide an additional $450m in security assistance to Ukraine, including more long-range rocket systems. About 4,031 people have been killed, including nearly 200 children as of the end of May, the UN rights office (OHCHR)

President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that granting Ukraine the EU candidate status is the biggest step towards strengthening Europe that could be taken in our difficult times.

Before today, the official list of candidate countries included Albania, the Republic of North Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Turkey.

Ukraine candidate status, will be discussed during the EU leaders summit on June 23-24.

Not helpful, lives re gettin wasted

Congratulations to them, since it's what they want.
However! Being a candidate is different from being a member

Normaly This kind of things usually take years.
But I think things are fast in the case of ukraine. due to the invasion of ukraine by russia
(obvious reasons , lives are at stake, and time cannot be wasted)
