The Zamfara State Government has directed citizens in the state to obtain guns to defend themselves against the bandits.

In a statement signed by Ibrahim Magaji Dosara, the Commissioner for Information in Zamfara State, the state government said the directive was a result of increase in the activities of bandits in various parts of the state and the government’s commitment to ensure adequate security and protection of lives and property of the citizenry in the state, particularly during this rainy season.

He explained that government has resolved to take further measures to deal with the recent escalating attacks, kidnapping and the criminal levies being enforced on their innocent communities.

“This act of terrorism has been a source of worry and concern to the people and government of the state. Therefore, in order to deal decisively with the situation in our respective communities, government has no option than to take the following measures:Government has henceforth, directed individuals to prepare and obtain guns to defend themselves against the bandits, as government has directed the state commissioner of police to issue license to all those who qualify and are wishing to obtain such guns to defend themselves.”

“Government is ready to facilitate people, especially our farmers to secure basic weapons for defending themselves. Government has already concluded arrangement to distribute 500 forms to each of the 19 Emirates in the state for those willing to obtain guns to defend themselves.”

“People must apply from the Commissioner of Police, license to own guns and such other basic weapons to be used in defending themselves.A secretariat or centre will be established for the collection of intelligence on the activities of informants.”

It took multiple years to adopt common sense. Lol if you trust your family's life in the hands of the incompetent government agents you'd have to be fool or coward. The only issue is the fools on government dont want you buying semi and full auto weapons.

Have a decentralised police force is good but an armed populace is better. The police have shown themselves to be incompetent and corrupt. At least when the population is armed dangerous criminals in government and on the street will need to think twice before getting aggressive.

They can hardly feed but villages can afford to pay millions in Ransome money when demanded. Stop whining, the option is to buy isn't the compulsion to buy. If he compelling them he'd just tax and tell them to collect a gun.

Everyone should take note of this development, states in the south should follow suite as long as the guns can be accounted for, traditional rulers and community leaders should sign surety for gun owners to avoid it entering into wrong hands.

Why would anyone stand as surety for a random person? What other aspects in life does this apply? If someone can't be responsible for themselves as an individual that's their fault.
