The only niggas in that set that used something close to their true age were Osaze, George Abbey and Joseph Yobo. Yobo only cut his age by 2 or 3 years cos he is roughly the same age as George Abbey who he grew up with and who used his real age to travel to Europe on his mother's British passport. On official documents, Abbey senior Yobo with only 2 years which means Yobo did not cut too much.

Mikel came in the era of football academy when they take them young so usually they only cut 2 to 5 years. I think Mikel will be within 2 years of P Square age, maybe 38. It is uncommon for players with 5 years age gap to play together in teenage years.

Chief to be factual Mikel's stats in the national team are also as good as that of Oliseh. Obi dropped 4 assists in the 2013 AFCON in addition to one lovely pre-assist against Burkina Faso in the group stages. Mikel qualified Nigeria for every single world cup that he was involved in.

Yes Mikel didn't do as much as he could have done with the national team but consider the caliber of players Obi had to mention compared to the great talents Sunday worked. It will be easier to get more assists when you're playing with the likes of Yekini, Amokachi, JJ, Finidi than Brown Ideye, gabriel rueben, sani kaita etc.

Club football yes Oliseh tried but it wasn't all rosy. He was a permanent bench warmer in Juventus, played for Ajax that dominated a farmer's dutch league. His time in Dortmund was here and there plus Borussia was in decline when he was with them.

Mikel had world class competition in Lampard, Ballack, Kante, Essien and yet was able to enjoy a fruitful career with Chelsea. Considering that he didn't start out as a DM I think Mikel deserves his flowers.

For the record I also agree Oliseh was the better player but I disagree that Mikel was a mug.

The funny thing about this argument is that the question indicated a clause - as a DM.

Mikel played DM for Chelsea but mostly played CM and sometimes even AM for Nigeria.
I didn't watch Oliseh myself but I posed this question to people who've watched all three and the answer is unanimous.

NOTE that I like Mikel, I think he's underrated and I no follow Ibime dey slander am, but of all the older guys I've asked, no one has elected to start anyone else.

I also did not watch Oliseh neither did I watch Mikel. Super eagles matches up till this day don't interest me.

However, one thing I remember vividly well was that, everytime Mikel played for the NT, people always cursed him.

They blamed Mourinho for destroying his career by converting him to a DM.

If Mikel ever did anything worthwhile in his career, it was under RDM. In the national team, safe to say that he was a disaster.

On this point I will add that there is no way prime Oliseh will be in a club and the likes of Oriol Romeu and David Luiz will bench him in DM position

So although the plenty competition of Ballack, Essien, Makelele sounds like a good argument, the counter is that when all those players left, Obi was inadequate without them and could not even keep his place against yeomen and centrebacks. Mikel has been a bench player since January 2013 and even the Matic that finally chased Mikel away will be nicely benched by a prime Oliseh.

How can Tuchel be front runner in chasing Sterling, like is he okay, who is he counting on to score goals next season, Havertz? At least I would understand spending that money buying Richarlison or that Raphina's £20m more expensive so not an option for a position with plenty players, honestly thought we are going for Richarlison

Mikels most active phase is 2009 to 2012, and even then at no point was he guaranteed except during RDMs spell and Hiddinks two short spells.

Sterling is good, I like his astute and aggressive play with the ball, he is ruthless and disturbing to opponent’s defense. The fact that pep is letting him go doesn’t mean he is not good, I mean pep has let go of players like Eto, Yaya, Ibra, in the past. He has abundance of quality attackers in his hands so letting go of some is normal, he is enjoying luxury. It will be a shame if he doesn’t win ucl with a city.

Fair point but the context of my paragraph which you highlighted is that Mikel isn't really a DM. He just performed creditably in a role he was never suited for unlike Oliseh who was an out and out DM who excelled in that role.
