When you get concurrent sentences, it means you are serving multiple sentences at the same time.
For instance, X was arraigned on 5 counts (5 offences), if he is found guilty of 4 out of the 5 offences and he is sentenced to 5 years imprisonment on each offence, his cumulative sentence 20 years (5x4) but they will run simultaneously, so X will only spend 5 calendar years.

But I know a cultist who was arrested and his fellow cultist was boasting to my hearing that his 10 year sentence will be 5 years in reality. That day and night thing. That's what I am not sure if it's a myth or not.

Prison calendars a quite different. A year can be counted as 7 months or 6 months. However, for that cultist, he will spend donkey years in prison. Before he is trial is over and he is sentenced, he would have spent like 3 years. Sometimes, the judge says a sentence may commence from the date of arrest but not in cases of cultists.

In my own calculations he will come out around March 10,2025.
