Adeleke's Victory: Fear Grips APC, Tinubu’s Camp Ahead 2023 Election by bennybuhari(op): 7:17am On Jul 18, 2022

Major stake holders in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) are currently in confusion and fear over the loss recorded by the party in the just concluded governorship election in Osun State.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday declared Senator Ademola Adeleke, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the winner of the Osun governorship election in a keenly contested exercise which was adjudged free and fair by local and foreign observers.

Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, the Returning Officer for the election and Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), announced that Adeleke got a total of 403,371 votes beating the incumbent, Adegboyega Oyetola of the APC who got 375,027 votes.

He said, “I declare Adeleke Ademola Jackson Nurudeen, on behalf of the Chairman of INEC, of the PDP, having satisfied the requirement of the law, is hereby declared the winner and he is returned elected.”

According to the total votes recorded by the electoral umpire, the PDP won 17 of the 30 local government areas of the state, while the APC won the remaining 13.

The PDP won in Ede North, Ede South, Ifelodun, Boluwaduro, Egbedore, Odo Otin, Osogbo, Ila, Atakumosa West, Olorunda, Ilesa West, Obokun, Oriade, Orolu, Ife North, Irepodun, and Ejigbo LGAs.

The APC, on the other hand, won in Boripe, Ilesa East, Ayedire, Ifedayo, Ife Central, Ayedaade, Iwo, Olaoluwa, Isokan, Atakumosa East, Irewole, Ife South, and Ife East LGAs.

The loss of the APC in Osun is coming at a time the party is struggling to convince Nigerians on its choice of a Muslim- Muslim presidential ticket which has met with widespread criticisms from Nigerians.

Loyalists of Tinubu, who were shocked by the outcome of the election, declined to speak on the issue on Sunday, saying they await the party’s position.

Some of the APC chieftains, who spoke with Daily Independent on condition of anonymity, said the outcome of the election is a bad signal, considering the fact that Osun is one of the states in the South-West where the party’s presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, enjoys popularity and Oyetola his nephew is the governor.

A chieftain of the party, who is a member of the South West Agenda for Asiwaju (SWAGA), said they were shocked at the outcome of the election, especially given the fact that the governor has performed well so far.

“I must tell you that we are shocked by the outcome of the election. We all believed that we will win especially given the fact that Governor Oyetola performed well.

However, we have learnt our lessons and I believe that this will not in any way affect the chances of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu in presidential election”.

On his part, Governor Oyetola said he has taken cognisance of the results of the governorship election in the state as announced by INEC, saying he is studying the outcome. In a statement issued by his media aide, Ismail Omipidan, on Sunday, Oyetola urged his supporters to remain calm and urged security operatives to ensure there is no breakdown of law and order across the state.

He, however, noted that the party would be responding appropriately after studying the results and consulting with critical stakeholders of the party.

Tinubu is from Iragbiji in Osun. How can a presidential candidate not secure his home first?.
APC IS DEAD WILL BE BURIED COME 2023.
As a true Christian yoruba we won't vote for a Muslim Muslim presidential ticket, because if it was the other way round the Muslims won't vote for us too.

They've gotten the glimpse already say buhari no go rig election for Tinubu.
as it stands now na OYO be Tinubu name and his only hope now na Northern Governors because SW no even too sure for him.
his only option now is to align with Kwankwaso because even shettima won't guarantee him votes in core North.

Tinubu urchins only hope is Buhari rigging for them and what played out in Osun is not encouraging.
Infact buhari even sent EFCC to arrest vote buyers cheesy in which most Apc agents where arrested grin

These people just gave him Apc ticket just to disgrace him.

Hahahaha

Charity or rejection begins at home. For daring to fly Muslim Muslim ticket in a multireligious society like Nigeria is the proof that he has decided to fail. Collect the money but vote your conscience. It is your money.

Tinubu urchins always bragged of 90% of votes in two southwest of Lagos and Osun.

Now Osun, the state we thought was surest for Tinubu, has slipped away.

And if you wanna say Adeleke’s victory does not translate to rejection of Tinubu, how do then explain the tearing down of Tinubu’s campaign billboards?

Oh! That was down by IPOB, right?

Tinubu just wasted APC ticket and I’m sure it’s God’s engineering.

Better if APC is not in the presidential race. By Tinubu's candidacy APC is strategically disqualified.

No wonder why Tinubu's Touts are attacking igbos, blaming igbos for the loss in Osun.

Thugs loyal to escoBAT, spearheaded by the notorious "Asiri Eniba" allegedly destroyed shops of Igbo traders in Osogbo after Adeleke was declared winner yesterday. Ndiigbo are always taking the fall for every damn thing. This madness has to stop. We can't continue like this.

Tinubu should know that since nigerians have lost hope in the federal govt, Tinubu needs lagos state to prove a point, but the lagos state govt has been a dissapointment but fortunately for Tinubu and Apc, they still have 8 months to go before the election, I will advise him to encourage sanwo olu to start the 4th mainland bridge, I will also advise them to mobilise contractors to all the abandoned constructions sites all across the state, they should also start immediately giving soft loans to the market women and the vulnerables, I know some will say that is vote buying no it is not, it is better than waiting for the election day to give 10k why can't you give the 10k legally now, I will also advise the stakeholders to learn how to talk reasonably to the people to soften their heart but not with arrogance and rudeness.

Strategically disqualified by which I mean a large section of the electorates will not tilt towards him. Yes, he will gain lots of votes but the votes will not be enough to help him win the election.

Why? Nigerians generally are both emotional and strategic people. Basically, people will naturally be repelled by the Muslim/Muslim ticket. So imagine a situation where he is banking on only Muslims to give him block votes! Can he equally boast of 25% votes from 24 states nationwide? Yes, nothing is impossible but right here I seriously doubt the possibility.

Agreed but the 2023 presidential election will be interesting because of Peter Obi factor

Basically, you are saying APC should start to distribute agbado and cassava.

Rather too late, don't you think, especially since we'd now rather labour to eat better yam.

This is a good thing for APC, they need reality check.

This will enable them to feel people pulse and strategize better for 2023.

God bless the incoming president

Very true! Bear in mind Peter Obi as a presidential candidate is a new comer in the field regardless of the fact he ran as a VP to Atiku, so nothing makes him unique. Politicians in Nigeria knows how to craft their way into people's mind and when one is not diligent enough one will be swayed.

Practically speaking, I don't see Obi having the magic wand, as a matter of fact Tinubu in his good health I can bet can even deliver more than Obi. Why? Leadership is not about been the smartest person in your team is more about knowing the smartest set of people that will galvanize your dreams and promises to fruition and Tinubu stand tall in this regard.

So, let's keep our fingers crossed.

It is not possible, that's the only pathway to victory

Peter obi should continue gaining momentum, we need him to drag as much vote as possible from Atiku/PDP, ATiku/PDP is the only threat

Everyone knows that OBI cannot win the presidential election.... you and I knows that unless you want to deceive ur self... and it is only a foolish yoruba man that will leave Tinubu and follow OBI and we yorubas cannot trust you.... you people hate the fulani but you love Atiku because he picked Obi as his running mate. You people were abusing buhari as a fulani terrorist and called Atiku fulani a saviour. Who is fooling who here.... anywhere belle face with selfish interest mindset.... only a foolish yoruba son will describe his father's house with left hand.... we cannot be deceive...
