The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) have called for a bill to regulate how children of public officers enroll in schools outside the shores of Nigeria.
Prof. Kingdom Tombra, Chairman of the University of Niger Delta University Wilberforce Island chapter of the union, made this known at the solidarity protest organised by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Tuesday in Yenagoa.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the NLC embarked on the nationwide protest in solidarity with the ASUU and other affiliate unions over the lingering industrial action in public universities in Nigeria.
“If this is done, it will build a better society by developing formidable educational institutions and improve funding of the university system in Nigeria.

“This struggle is not against government, but about the working class and against the ruling class and we are very committed to it
“If the rich and poor go to the same university or institution, I don’t think the strike will occur again.

“If they school here and their children are here they will show total support for the university system and the tertiary institutions in Nigeria,” he said.

NAN reports that lecturers in government-owned universities commenced a nationwide strike on Feb. 14 over the adoption of the University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS) as a payment system in the university sector.

Earlier, Gov. Douye Diri of Bayelsa who spoke to the organised labour, commended the ASUU and the NLC for the peaceful conduct of the protest, promising to channel their demands to the appropriate quarters.
Also speaking, Mr John Ndiomu, the NLC Chairman in Bayelsa commended the governor for his peaceful disposition.

He said that the workers and the students are being represented in the Nationwide solidarity rally.

Ndiomu, urged the federal government to sign the renegotiated draft agreement between ASUU and the Federal Government.

”Adopt University Transparency Accountability Solution (UTAS) in place IPPIS, Pay Earned Academic Allowances (EAA)

“Release of Revitalization Fund, Release white paper on visitation to Federal Universities. Amend NUC law to control proliferation of state universities without funding,” the labour leader said.

Very good!!!!

Once this is done, all these useless politicians will realize their wards can’t go to Harvard or Cambridge or Yale anymore, they’ll be so desperate to build such quality here in Nigeria.
Till when will this madness continue??

They children should even be banned for life from traveling

And also a ban should be placed on medical check ups

Supported!

There should be exceptions like the one below:

If the children were abroad before political office, then they can continue. Also the children can go abroad after their first degree, as you cannot stop an adult from schooling abroad because his thieving father is a politician in Nigeria.

Nonsense, how does where politicians send their children affect ASUU?

They should stop blackmailing the country with their senseless strike or we should better disband this group for disturbing the peace.

Some defenders of the politicians whose future were also mortgaged would soon start defending them.

It is difficult to overcome bad governance only because of the evil people who take it upon themselves to defend their oppressors.

Is there any form of greater mental slavery?

Hmmm in Nigeria?

The bill is already dead on arrival.

Is just like u want to sentence the judge.

Politicians that are suppose to be laying focus on education in Nigeria, making sure every sector of education in Nigeria is working fine. Education is what shape human being to a productive fellow in the society.but they prefer to steal money and sponsor there children to foreign country to study forgetting any developed country it is education of there citizens that is the backbone of their development.

As Public officers kids are being banned from schooling abroad, these lecturers' kids should be banned from schooling abroad as well ...

In fact, lecturers kids should be banned from schooling in the same university or even in the same state where their parents lecture...These lecturers' kids while schooling in the same school where their parents lecture, are mostly protected by their parents from the exploitation other students face in that tertiary system.. .

Let their kids school in other universities where they too can be messed with by other lecturers...Make lecturer A in UNIBEN nak the pikin of him colleague wey dey UNIJOS..it's good that they keep sharing and cross-fvcking their daughters among themselves and leave other people's children out of their uselesness.

These useless lecturers after selling handouts at exorbitant prices, and refusing to leave these young girls for young men like us, will be blaming the political class when they are far worse than those politicians.. undecided

No, that would be madness. Their children also would become adults and should be able to do whatever whatever want when they are adult enough to take care of themselves.

Reasons are: when they find out their children can’t access the mansions in Florida, the estates in Dubai, the good jobs opportunities in London, they’ll invest their loot money here in the country immediately so their children can manage and have access to it.

Long overdue.... But, it won't happen!

Those who should sponsor the bill have all their children schooling abroad at the expense of Taxpayer's money.

Has it been part of their request or it's just coming as after thought?

ASUU should be specific on what they really want.
