What Structure Had Labour And ACN When They Won In Ondo And Edo? by Penguin2(op):
More often than not, you some people dismiss the chances of Labour Party in the upcoming 2023 elections because, according to them, the party does not have structure.

But would it be the first time a party without structure is winning elections? I guess not.

In 2007, Olusegun Mimiko defected from PDP to Labour Party after he failed to clinch the PDP ticket from the sitting Governor, Olusegun Agagu. The masses wanted Mimiko but PDP trusted in their ‘structure’ and gave their ticket to the unpopular sitting governor.

At the conclusion of the election in 2007, Olusegun Mimiko won with his ‘structureless’ Labour Party but INEC, typical of them at the time, declared the sitting PDP governor.

Mimiko went to court. And sometimes in 2008, the Supreme Court declared Olusegun Mimiko of the ‘structureless’ Labour Party the authentic winner of the election and he was sworn in. That’s how Ondo State joined the off cycle election.

Similarly, in same 2007, a certain popular former chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress, Comrade Adams Oshiomole, joined the governorship race in Edo State in same ‘structureless’ Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, and his message and manifesto reverberated with the masses who queued behind him because they wanted to rescue Edo from the shackles of Lucky Igbonedion and the puppet he was sponsoring to succeed him, Dr Osunbor.

Like in Ondo, after the election, Adams Oshiomole won with his ‘structureless’ ACN but INEC declared PDP.

Oshiomole went to court and got victory around 2008 when the Supreme Court declared him as the validly elected governor of Edo State. Oshiomole was sworn in and that’s how Edo joined the off cycle elections.

One thing is common amongst these two, when they were running on the Labour Party and ACN platforms, the party had no Senator, no House of Rep Member, no House of Assembly Member, not even a Ward Councilor. But they had the people. And the people defeated the entrenched structures in the two states.

Do you still rate structure above the people?

We don't have to tell them about Labour party structure....

They just have to witness it during the election day.....

By the way, it's even more foolish to compare a state election to a presidential election that will be held across Nigeria with it's regional, ethnic and religious complexities. Una just too dull. Tuehhhhhhhh.....

The different states of Nigeria are microcosms of the Nigerian macrocosm.

In every state lies their different tribal, regional and political complexities, yet it was possible for structureless parties to win the election. Inductively, it can happen in Nigeria.

Now, talking about whether Oshiomole won with Labour Party or ACN in Edo, the question is, “how many senators, Rep Members, Assembly Members or ward councilors had ACN in Edo when Oshiomole contested that election?” Did ACN have any structure in Edo prior to 2007?

ACN was on the verge of becoming a south western party then. With Tinubu support and other Yoruba leaders who also want to gain more strength for the ACN across the south. They worked together. The election was rigged before the mandate was reclaimed.

Mimiko was in the PDP, He won the primary election but was by the PDP platform before moving out of the party to contest under Labour and for his second term under the Labour party.

We are talking about the General election here. Majority of the voters are not aware of Obi in many villages. He is not that popular. It is the structure that will market him to the voters in remote areas, town and cities.
