It's the nigeria mentality of dealers, they want to milk everyone that comes their way, no integrity and always looking for a way to cheat others and make themselves happy on the detriment of others.

The only way to deal with such issue is, if you felt the price is too much just leave and continue searching and don't be in a hurry. You can change from area (A) to (B) because checking prices within just area (A) may not be lower as the dealers within area (A) maybe having meetings to inflate prices within the area. Try to compare prices from all the areas as wide as possible.

Let's use the 05 camry you quoted for 3.5m as a yardstick.

Bought at Auction $2,000
(A clean title is usually more expensive but let's use $2,000)

Documentation, trucking, and shipping : $1,350
(could be more or slightly less, depends on location)

This brings it to : $3,350

Dollar rate (let's use N650/$)

650 X 3,350 : 2,177,500

Clearing is now above 1m, but let's use 1,100,000
(Depends on shipping line and also your agent)

2,177,000 + 1,100,000 : 3,277,000

In most cases, Dealers will have to clean up the car, fix whatever errors it gat to make it look presentable and road worthy.

Have it in mind, there is a downtime as well, shipping can take atleast 6-8weeks (2months).

If dealer pegs it at 3,500,000 as you have said, his cost price is around 3.3m.
Making 200k profit in 2months shouldnt be termed greed.

I didn’t see auction fee that around 1000 dollars, gate fee and internet fee is around 200 dollars. 2000 dollars plus 1200 dollars is 3200 dollars.

Excluding shipping that is 1250 plus 250 trucking and 200 or 150 commission for the shipping. The whole total is around 4900 dollars.

8 out of 10 times, Camry O5 gotten at auction site isn’t over 1850$, there are a lot of bidding platforms to prove my point. In fact I just saw a sweet silver Camry 05 at ‘buy now’ $1,400. Camry is among the cheapest set of cars out there, we can’t put the blame on dollar entirely though it plays a part. Even my own neighbor that’s a car dealer almost duped me when I was still a fresher in this car business, so you can’t entirely rule out greed either.
But then again, the discussion on this thread is about Nigeria used, not toks
