Arms embargo was placed on Iran by the US. So for many years, the country couldn't buy weapon for it military. So they invested heavily in ballistic missile systems and drone.

Now they have very capable ballistic missiles and different type of drones.

In addition, Iran captured an advance US drone on 4th of December 2011, using it advanced electronic warfare system. The US drone-RQ-170 Sentinel was captured and the Iranians claimed to had reverse the engineered of the drone.

Russia on the other hand started investing in drone recently. So they don't have huge stockpile of drone and they have been unable to produce new ones due to the sanctions.

rather ask how Iranian drones were able to attack oil field in Saudi Arabia even when the the oil field was guarded by US patriot systems,also ask how they were able to attack targets deep in UAE using Iran suicide drones .


I think Russia bought them because they are battle tested and trusted ,2ndly they could not buy from Turkey because Ukraine is using Turkish drones so is not making sense for them to use the same system with Ukraine,but all in all will create market for Iranian military hardware or ridicule the Iranian defence industry ,

Iranian drones are very good, combat ready and tested. Their drones have experienced combats in Iraq, Syria and Yemen and they've proved their reliability and combat effectiveness. The Houthis in Yemen have used them to devastating effect. The Houthis flew them stealthily into Saudi Arabia in 2019 to blow up Aramco facilities under the watch of U.S patriot defence systems and have carried out more stealthy kamikaze drone strike since then

They have stealth drones that have flown over U.S aircraft carriers transiting the gulf taking the pictures of their flight deck in order to demonstrate how vulnerable U.S carriers are to their drones but western biased news outlets won't list them as one of the best producers of drones in the world.

And FYI Iran is the first country in the world to produce and use suicide/kamikaze drone also known as loitering munition. Iran is a drone power and has been in the drone business for decades and it continues to improve on its drone technology.

Iran have one the best drones in the world
Iran drones are home made and better than Chinese drones.
Any one following Syria war, knew Iran drones are the best because even Russia military were using it against rebels in Syria.

Turkey drones parts are components from Canada, UK, Sweden and Co which is different from Iran that the components are from Russia, China and India.

But the fact that Iran that have been under sanctions for years can produce drones, missiles while we west Africa countries that have not been sanctioned can’t even produce anything shows, we Africans have failed.

Saudi Arabia that have access to all western technology can’t produce anything but Iran that have sanctioned used Russia made software that can be bought online to hacked one of the USA best drone and also used Russia technology to built their own missiles
