Blackout Across Nigeria As Electricity Workers Begin Strike, Shut Down Transmission Stations

Many parts of the country are currently experiencing power outages as members of the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) commenced an indefinite industrial action today August 17, IGBERETV reports.

Members of the electricity union are protesting the nonpayment of outstanding arrears owed to former workers of the defunct Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), suspension of conditions of service and career path for workers and the directive by the TCN board to conduct promotion interviews for acting principal managers who are moving to Assistant General Managers .

According to data from the Independent System Operation (ISO), a section of TCN, power generation on the grid was 4,149.40MW as of 6am from 21 power plants on Wednesday but drastically dropped to 1,635MW from 17 plants.

By 12 noon, the grid had crashed to 1,246.40MW as three power plants went off, and by 1pm, the grid dropped to 762.30MW with just 13 plants active. The peak generation achieved on Tuesday was 4,829MW.

Some of the transmission companies have taken to social media to inform their customers of the power cut due to the strike.

The striking workers have vowed not to resume work until all their demands are met by the Federal Government.

A video shared online shows electricity workers shutting down Abuja TCN station over the strike.

So you go ahead to punish the ordinary citizen who can't afford to buy fuel because you have a grouse with government officials who steal billions and can afford to power their houses 24/7 all year round?

If the govenment tells you guys to go to hell, the common man can't sympathize with you. Tueh!

The struggling man on the street is the one suffering for this kind of strike, if the union is serious let them switch off only the Government house or office lights.... Now most of the government officials don't feel anything cuz have generator or inverter in their house.

I wish we could resurrect Abacha for a year.

Nigeria doesn't need a gentleman like GEJ or Osinbajo. We need a decisive ruthless tyrant.

If una mistakenly vote me in.... walahi, Nigeria go change for the better.

All the metal drums they used for public executions, I will bring them out again. Embezzlers go see pepper.

Tinubu said he will continue from where the irresponsible govt of Buhari stopped.

The choice is yours to make, whether to continue with this failed system or take back your country from these scaliwags.

Education in coma

Power.... Rest in peace

Economy... Buried

Security...... Zero

Infrastructure.... Comatose

Corruption..... Order of the day

Why should you reward APC for these failures?

Vote right! Think of your future!

Enough of these old and insensitive politicians playing with your future

Some babies on incubator may die bc of this action, some on life saving machine, some in theatre may have gone.

Those people you are fighting with have solar panels, generators and inverters that can last one month you Moro ns

It’s the common man that will feel this grin

Anyways Nigerians love their oppressors. I learnt never to champion anything that will lead to their freedom. Slave mentality is there forever

Nigerians will continue to suffer like fools while repping a country that gives them nothing.

I see the youths put on the NYSC cloth and snap pictures on IG to show off while pocketing $60 a month allowance.

Lol a country that doesn’t even give a damn about you. Couldn’t even give you benefits during the COVID lockdown and you had to raid a warehouse.

Anyways Nigerians deserve their leaders. I am pleased.
