The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) says the ongoing strike action will not end anytime soon.

Emmanuel Osodeke, ASUU president, spoke on Wednesday during a Twitter Space organised by Premium Times.

ASUU has been on strike since February 14 over the government’s alleged failure to meet its demands.

Hopes of the strike coming to an end were dashed after a meeting between the union’s executives and the federal government on Tuesday ended in deadlock.

Commenting on the meeting, Osodeke said the government came “with nothing” to the table.

The ASUU president said the government is yet to show any commitment to the demands of the lecturers.

“The situation now is that it’s even worse than when we started. The government has not shown any responsibility on how to fund our university system and education in general,” he said.

“They only claim they don’t have funds, no one can believe that. There are no funds and one man can steal N109 billion and the government is trying to negotiate with him? The government has not shown any commitment.

“We met with them yesterday and they came with nothing. It is very sad that all Nigerian universities are closed and all the government is interested in, is how to win elections and Nigerian people are watching.”

Very unfortunate

Nigerians need to rise up against bad government under politicians that do not value education

Only children of the poor masses and the average people affected

I advice, try to learn a skill or better still secure a menial job that can keep you busy that you'll forget about ASUU strike. They don't mean well for Nigerians. Truth must be told.

They has been serial strikes that got to be resolved easily, until, now that elections is approaching ASUU strike is becoming something else.

What did ASUU bring to the table if they are only pointing accusing fingers at FG?
FG has said it can not provide the over N1 trillion demand that the PDP under late Yardua signed but not queried before going ahead with it by HE GEJ in 2010.
They should find a middle ground with FG. It is obvious that FG won't pay that money since it does not have it.
How much is the whole national budget when ASUU demands for the universities will take over a trillion naira.

over $20b have been looted by buhari to find oil in Chad basin without result

More than double what ASUU is asking

ASUU don't need anything in the table, their credentials is enough

Make sure medical students and nurses are in hospitals gaining work experience, don't forget engineering students too. Suspend NYSE for now.

The Future is dark can you imagine? No education for a month not to talk of a year.

I am sure that you are confusing PMB for someone else.
Even his enemies with conscience will blame him for everything but not corruption. That is why he has no pandora file.

Imagine what our education system has turned into.
And somebody will still ask me to vote for APC again.
