Goat and yam theory in practice grin

Only problem is that in this instance, the goat is still eating the yam he is being so heavily paid to safeguard cheesy

4 billion monthly to safeguard against crude oil theft...not including Exploration and transport costs undecided

How much profit does the Government make monthly from the sale of the not-stolen crude for it to be paying one criminal 4 billion monthly not to sabotage the pipelines, while other militants not loyal to him carry on the vandalism?
$1.4 billion dollars per month, give or take.

They're all failures tho.

Buhari attempted to kill the goose that is laying the golden eggs, and he saw the consequencies. The result of the age long marginalization of the oil producing communities gave rise to oil theft and bunkering And any wise government must appease the gods of the creeks so as to boost crude oil production and that's what they just did.the only policies still working in this regime are the ones initiated by GEJ.

It's all about results. Since we are moving towards true federalism, every state must look inwards, Tompolo is the best pick, because it's his region, he knows it, and he is respected.

Arelyn:
Most people wonder where the genesis of insecurity in this country started and students of history will say the "moment rebels from a particular region were rewarded with an amnesty program by Presidents Musa Yar'adua and Goodluck Ebele Johnathan" was when the Federal Government lost control of the security rudder of this country.

We have seen how a certain Northern Cleric; Sheikh Ahmed Guni has been soliciting for Amnesty openly, the same way leaders of the South-South region; the likes of Chief Edwin Clark openly championed the course of amnesty for the different groups with the MEND movement. The reward for those movements is cash disbursement in exchange for pipeline security, a well-crafted siphoning of money into the hands of a selected group of people who have not in any way created any worthwhile infrastructure in their region upon the amount granted to them so far but thankfully we don't hear of pipeline bombing or kidnapping of expatriate again.

Having said this, I wonder why people complain about Guni, his foot warlords and their actions without seeing what the end goals of their movement are. I am very sure, the social vices of these groups will be reduced if not stopped, the moment a full-blown amnesty is declared for them.

The scenarios aren't the same please. One was fighting for Justice for a region feeding the whole country with her resources. What are the others fighting for

They are paying him not to steal the oil. Its like paying a thief not to steal from you which is as good as him stealing from you

Situations like this make me wonder why Nigeria is still existing as a country. No country is run like this except banana republics and failed countries.

Why would a federal government pay someone they called a criminal a whopping 4 billion naira monthly to safeguard pipelines? Many states don't even receive that much monthly!!

A sane country would have done two things to solve this criminality:
1. Invest in large numbers of unmanned armed drones that will be hovering over these areas and snipping bunkerers 24/7. By the time casualty rates mount on the side of the criminals, others would stay away.

2. Pay direct percentages to the local governments and communities, and empower them to work with government in ensuring that nothing of such happens in their communities. There will also be a caveat that wherever bunkering activities are recorded, they would be made to pay for the repair works with forgone emoluments. They will now pay their vigilantes good money from the percentages they receive and also train and arm them with sophisticated arms.

Criminality will always pay in a weak country that dwells on injustice.
Why this government cannot follow the blueprint of developed nations where mineral resources are located remains a mystery.
