Recall that Gov Wike has been at loggerheads with the party leadership and Gov Tambuwla after losing out in the May 2022 presidential primary of the party as well as losing out in the race to become the running mate of Atiku Abubakar who won the presidential primary of the party.

His grievance against Tambuwal has been that the Sokoto state governor who is his friend worked against him to ensure Atiku secured the party's presidential ticket.

Tambuwal who was also in the race for the party's Presidential ticket, stepped down for Atiku and asked his delegates to give their votes to Atiku and not Wike who was also in the race to win the party's Presidential ticket.
