It is too early to assess his performance based on his height disadvantage, many of the small EPL clubs always play the tactics of lumping high balls with a strong and tall CF, someone like Toney, Mateta or even Callum Wilson that is strong aerially and physically might easily bully him off the ball.

The point is you have to wait till season end or even far into the season before you conclude his height wasn't a disadvantage to his performance.

The same bias used to exist for Goalkeepers 8n the past, where they usually go for the tallest ones, but that mentality has changed in the last decade. Now guys like Yan Sommer, Manuel Neur etc has shown that it's not by height either, as evidenced by useless Goalkeepers like de gea who are tall but useless in claiming crosses and in aerial battles

Height will give you an advantage but it's not a must-have for a defender. Just like long legs is not a must-have for sprinters
