Did You Know Lagos Became British Colony in 1862; 137 Years Before Tinubu? by Penguin2: 1:18pm On Aug 30, 2022 |
One of the most repeated ‘hook and chorus’ by Tinubu promoters as his selling point for 2023 presidential election is that “Tinubu built Lagos”; and he will replicate his feat in Lagos nationwide if he wins the election. But how true is that claim? According to this Twitter user, Lagos became a British Colony on 5 March, 1862 (a true claim that can be verified by simple google search). That was 137 years before Tinubu became governor of Lagos in 1999. What this means is that Lagos has been consciously and intentionally ran for 137 years by both British Colonial Rulers and their Nigerian counterparts who took over from them. The Carter Bridge, the Second Mainland Bridge, the Third Mainland Bridge, MMIA, etc, none of these iconic projects was built by Tinubu. The IGR which they always claim Tinubu increased seemed to have had no positive impact on Tinubu administration as he still left a debt of whopping N100billion when he left office in 2007. It begs the question therefore, as to the justification that Tinubu supporters have when they say that Tinubu built Lagos. Mynd44

Penguin2: And in all those years, the British were using the UK and Nigerian money to develop Lagos? Despite that, Lagos has no Eko Atlantic, Lekki Deep Sea Port, Red Rail, Blue Rail, BRT, RRS, Lekki Free Trade Zone, Oshodi Bus Terminal, 4th Mainland Bridge, 6lane Lekki Epe Road, etc, nor there was a plan to build all these things. The joke is on you. By the time we collect your money, collect your mosquito net, girls, etc., you'll go back to Anambra shouting Biafra or Death. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G2-eFo4O42E 4 Likes 2 Shares |

Owopariola001: 4th Mainland Bridge is still a drawing. Eko Atlantic City was launched by Fashola in 2009; 2 years after Tinubu left office in 2007. Lekki - Epe Expressway was built by Pa Lateef Jakande. Oshodi Bus Terminal was built by Ambode around 2017/2018; almost 11 years after Tinubu left office. The Lagos Blue and Red Line Monorail is an overpriced project that has lingered for over 15 years now. Shame no dey catch una to appropriate other people’s achievements to Tinubu? 7 Likes |

Lagos Island was the colony and FCT, that's Obalende, Ikoyi axis not Lagos State comprising of Ikeja , Badagry, Epe and other places under Western region Lagos stopped been FCT for over 30 years, Anambra became a state 30 years ago Abeg mention Obis achievements Portuguese came first and got welcomed by Yorubas in Lagos when Ibo people never accepted them, British people also came and got welcomed in Lagos Please go and google search what Lord Lugard said about each region . 5 Likes |

Kagd10: Are you sure you understand English? I told you Peter Obi initiated the Airport and acquired the land for it. Same way you are claiming Tinubu initiated BRT that was launched in 2008 after he left office and Eko Atlantic City that was launched in 2009 after he left office. |

Penguin2: That's a lie. There was no initiative at all. All what Peter Obi miscreantt kept saying was Obiano used the saved money by Peter Obi bla bla bla even though Obiano didn't say it with his mouth but rather said Peter Obi only let him with 9b naira and 25b naira eurobond which included investment. Also, Obiano said Peter Obi left him with debt. 1 Like |

I have noticed that IPOB are more obsessed with Lagos than the Yoruba owners are They just cannot imagine their Biafra Without Lagos Ojukwu also made the same mistake and it became his Biafra's downfall Why does Lagos give them so much Agony? 3 Likes |

Moh247: Today, Nyanya, Gwagwalada, Kuje, Mararaba (Nasarawa), etc, are all developing with speed and with considerable population of people. Can you say that these areas are just developing on their own because their local government chairmen have been doing a wonderful job and not because they are located close to the FCT? |

Penguin2: They are attracting investors because they are peaceful and cheaper alternative to Abuja FCT Lagos State hasn't collected any kobo from FG after their normal allocation, infact PDP withdrew their LGA allocation yet through Public Private Partnership they got things done What is stopping Ibo leaders |

Moh247: Fantastic! Now tell us why you think that Ikeja, Ikorodu, Oshodi, Mushin, Surulere, Yaba, etc, did not attract investment because they were cheaper alternatives to Ikoyi and Victoria Island for all the years that Lagos served as seat of government both to British Colonialists and the Nigerian government till 1990? |

Penguin2: Let me give you a practical example Nigeria needed refinery, Dangote had the finance to invest in a refinery Dangote went around states looking for where to locate it, Amosun of Ogun offered land for a huge price, Mimiko in Ondo rejected the offer . SouthSouth and SouthEast also rejected him He went to meet Tinubu, not only did he get Freeland at Lekki free trade zone, Lagos State got investor to build a deep sea port

Moh247: You see the problem I have with you guys? You claimed it was only Ikoyi and Vi that the British and Nigerian govt developed in Lagos; that Oshodi, Surulere, Mushin, Festac, had nothing to do with Lagos having been Federal Capital Territory for Long. I now had to give you practical example of how Gwagwalada, Kuje, Nyanya and even Mararaba in Nasarawa State, are attracting investments because of their proximity to the FCT; which punctures a hole in your argument of other parts of Lagos not benefiting from Lagos’ FCT status. Now, you left that one and started talking about refinery. Why are you so inconsistent? |

Kagd10: Oyetola will be leaving Osun state without borrowing a dime for four years but Osun is still indebted due to the borrowings of past administrations, especially that of Aregbesola, would it be right if Adeleke takes over government and says he inherited N100billion debts from Oyetola when you and I, and the world, know that Oyetola didn’t borrow one naira all through his days as governor? |
