You may wonder why the increase in adultery by married men and women, even those who go to church.

I will tell you deep and normal reasons why adultery has increased.

(1) Unbroken Soul-tie: You may hear people say "it was my past", I am now a changed person. But if you check today, one channel of adultery in marriages today is caused by EX boyfriends, EX girlfriends, former sex mates....
The reason why it is so is because people don't intentionally go to pray and thoroughly break covenants and spiritually separate with those who Deflowered them, whom they slept with etc. So even if they say "I am a changed person", some years later in marriage, they may still go back to their old vomit probably because of the Soul-tie with their former partners.

(2) Social Media Addiction: A married man or woman who roams on the internet chatting with the opposite sex may land into the sin of adultery. The social media has varieties and lots of specs that may be more attractive than your spouse. So if you keep roaming there, you may commit adultery.

(3) Over-confidence: Be careful with stuffs like "he is just a friend", "she is just a friend", "nothing will happen, I know myself"...

Sometimes the bait of adultery may display very slowly. It may start with constant innocent conversations, constant platonic appreciation, constant good concern, constant care etc...But before you know it, you may find yourself stark naked with someone who is not your husband or wife.

(4) Lack of Prayers and Study of the Bible: If you don't pray often and read your Bible often you may fall into the sin of adultery as a married man or woman.

(5) Not dealing with internal lust: As a married man or woman, you need to deal with that weird sexual imagination in your head, else you may fulfill it one day with whom you are lusting after.

Isn't the major reason at the core of it simply a problem of sexual lust, which Jesus Christ made clear over 2000 years ago - Matthew 5 vs 27 - 28? undecided

By the way, all the prayer and studying of the bible will never keep you from sexual lust. Even the Pharisees and teachers of the law who studied the Law as a profession found themselves breaking God's Law against adultery even with all their praying fasting(starvation diets) and studying of scripture. What instead works is obedience of God's commandment as given. undecided

This has to do with lack of knowledge! Hosea 4:6

When God created the first human pair both of them were attracted to each other first {Genesis 2:22-25} they both realized that there is no way out of what God joined together {Matthew 19:6} they must stick together come what may!

But after some time they rebelled against their Creator and ever since then God allowed them and their children to see the consequences of rebellion, Adam's descendants no longer look to God for guidance on how to live since each now wants to be his or her own god {Genesis 3:1-5} with the exceptional few who are looking forward to guidance from the Creator but God wants mankind to learn from their mistakes so there was no guidance until God decided to start a nation that will be given His principles about how mankind supposed to live.
The first man who rebelled against the law of one man for one woman is Lamech during that time Bible was written the names of females born in that generation doesn't enter the record but God made sure that the names of the first two promiscuous females that agreed to share a man was penned down with their rebellious husband! Genesis 4:19
Thousands of years have passed now though God never told anyone not to marry more than one husband or wife until His only begotten Son came and emphasized on the standard God set in the beginning {Matthew 19:4} then Christ's followers made it a law among them that no one would be given any privilege in the Christian congregation if you're not a husband of one woman! 1Timothy 3:2; Titus 1:6

Jesus taught his disciples that anyone who can't stick to his or her marriage vows is guilty of adultery (fornication) Matthew 19:8-9

Why such rule? Because in God's Kingdom where Christ will rule as King {Isaiah 9:6-7} no man or woman will be allowed to mate with more than one partner, that's the standard God set in the beginning!

The true God called His own worshipers out from practicers of false religions {Revelations 18:4} and given them another group name {Isaiah 65:15} so that whoever wants to know God's standard can observe how His people are being governed by Christ's anointed brothers {Luke 12:32} now that God's kingdom has gotten a visible organization practicing what everyone can see {Isaiah 2:2-4} JEHOVAH declared saying:

Let the one who is unrighteous continue in unrighteousness, and let the filthy one continue in his filth; but let the righteous one continue in righteousness, and let the holy one continue in holiness. Revelations 22:11

Of course there are many who were practicers of filth before coming into the midst of God's people but they have learned how to put the old personality behind {1Corinthians 6:11} and now they've put on the new personality! Ephesians 4:22-24

But as for the rest let them continue starving {Amos 8:11} for the bread of life {John 6:35} that's what they chose for themselves!

Not sure of the validity of the story but obviously he wasn't a Christian but a Christain while cheating. Otherwise, there would be no need for a confession. If an atheist cheats, it's normal and natural to him. There's a big difference.
