Students and parents either sit on the fence or support ASUU strike since the university autonomy agreement was signed with the government since 2009 and that is the major reason why ASUU always go on strike.

Unfortunately, students and parents don't see this coming. If the autonomy is granted many will regret and drop out because Federal Universities will now have the power to fix school fees to compete with private universities.

Remember, when post UTME was first introduced, prospective students were charged as much as 20,000 , 40,000 for screening they are not certain to scale through before Buhari regulated it.

Facts you have to pay they'll have to pay for good service they're demanding. They can't expect to foist all the cost on tax payers.

A third world country running a free tuition fees universities. petrol 0.25. yet they demand utopia country from failed government. no where in the world is university education is free like in Nigeria. petrol sold for $0.25 per liter

If they're not already interested in the services they're paying for that's an issue. ASUU and the FG don't care too much about students or parents because they're aren't paying for much. Remember he who pays the piper calls the tune. If you're worried about unbearable cost dont worry simply allow market competition to take over by approving more schools or students will take up different occupations.

Unfortunately students and parents don't know anything about the proposed autonomy till they are caught unaware. They are even sympathising with ASUU

After going to a federal school and paying next to nothing, you now have the galls to say " so be it". Just anything to defend that inept mummy inside AsoRock. SMH. Then you'd turn around and blame PDP for years of maladministration. And then PDP turns aróund and narrate what OBJ did to better the lives of Lecturers. And Kadoso has nothing else to say.

I think governments should stop funding universities solely. Grants are ok. But if governments are to do that there must make basic education-primary and secondary accessible and affordable. Public basic schools have collapsed.
People who are talking about university education in developed nations should know that quality basic education is free, accessible and available. Parents shouldn't spend so much for basic education and still spend heavily for university education.

People who are talking about university education in developed nations should know that quality basic education is free, accessible and available. Parents shouldn't spend so much for basic education and still spend heavily for university education.

The government should please listen to this post. I’ve been saying this. It is not necessary that everyone should attend uni. Most of the courses are a waste of time and effort, unless you are going for professional courses like medicine, law, engineering etc.

Go to the developed world and a lot of them that did not attend universities can get things done on their own. Go to YouTube and see them building their own houses that will put our university architects, interior designers and engineers to shame. See them growing their own food that will put a lot of our university graduates that majored in agriculture, biology etc to shame. And the list goes on and on.

Once you have the basic primary and secondary education, please learn a damn skill to earn money, and stop screaming there is no damn job after you have wasted your fruitful years fighting for a useless degree.

Fed govt have agreed to 23% and 35% increment yet ASUU rejected it insisting on 100%. And they are not been realistic. The 2009 agreement was signed just to make them go back to classes without intention to pay.

First- University is being treated same as Civil service which is being used as a dumping ground by both the govt. and ASUU for disguised unemployed. The kind of characters being recruited into universities are appalling, and have no academic or research value. Hence the universities are not functional. Poor performance third class and 2nd students end up employed in Nigerian universities.

So FG should offload all Federal Universities. Sell them or hand them over to Alumini, foundations, social cultural organizations, etc.

The Federal Government should not be directly involved in education that it cannot regulate. Each university gets doled out funds they are never required to effectively account for.


Establish an education fund in all commercial banks, the money used in funding universities should go to this fund and used as students loan. Any Nigerian that is admitted in school should qualify for student loan. State govt. can subsidize these loans as necessary for their populace.

Doing this with same funds currently used will reduce the massive number of universities . Schools that cannot attract students due to poor teaching, poor staff or poor funding will be downgraded to Polytechnics and colleges. The new university managers will sack idle staff who bribed to get university jobs and retain and employ lecturers who can impact on their students attractiveness.


Lecturers will automatically fall in to performance grades based on their research impact. Lectures that attract research funds will earn way more than their peers as salaries will be negotiated on individual basis. ASUU will die naturally, while academic staff will earn based on demand and supply as in the private sector.

This meets everyones requirements FG will stop blanket funding, Lecturers will earn more based on performance even though about 50% will loose their jobs, students will take loans to fund effective and functional education. If you are paying N10 million to attend school, you will not afford to ignore a non performing lecturer. Infact after one year, if you are not learning you will opt for another institution. So Universities will compete for you. You have your whole life to payback the loan. Which the FG can forgive depending on circumstances. Those who are not interested in pursuing design careers will not be interested in University education, as it will not be just time consuming, but money consuming. Focus will shift back to Polytechnics, colleges and certificates schools that will take just 2 years to give functional skills that can help you earn a living. Universities will be for those 20-30% that want more.

In this economy, with a tax rate of 30%, the increase is not worth while. A University Prof. On the highest level cadre should have at the least $1500 take home to be Academically relevant beyond Nigeria. If the FG cannot afford this, ofgload the universities to the private sector to run, instead of running a half baked system with poor funding. Even ASUU will oppose the offloading, but thats the best thing for students.
