Hyperchi:I have not been oh but even before Nigeria became unsafe as it is now, I heard Mbaise people were so wicked that other areas warned their daughters not to marry from there. That was even when I was a child. As a teenager same stories and as adult it did not change. Sorry sha I know its your place but the people are wicked. ![]() |

mrvitalis:Ur ignorance stinks to high heavens. Please close ur mouth. Dont talk again becos u vomit nonsesnse when u talk. Church leaders are chosen by the Superiors in the church and these are based on certain criterias which never included that the person must be from the state or town. Mbaise people really shamed me as a catholic. I covered my face in shame becos I cannot believe that any catholic priest can fight his superiors when they sworn an oath of allegiance and obedience on their ordination day, so why all the fuse ? Please do not remind me of the shameful conduct by Mbaise people during the Cardinal Okpaleke 's ordeal. But the rejected stone has become the chief cornerstone. Lesson learnt: at times, when God is preparing u for something big. u must pass through a challenging period that will never be pleasant at all. That period may be the toughest in ur life. At times, u may likely want to give up but becos God knows d reason of the challenge , He will never allow u to give up until when u are fully purified for the position. Gold is a very beautiful ornament but have u wondered what gold passed through to become beautiful? it passed through a fire , terrible fire so as to be beautiful. Cardinal Okpaleke's ordeal in Mbaise was just a purification stage for him to become a Cardinal unknowingly to him and the Mbaise people. God works in a mysterious way. Praise be to HIS Name. Congratulations to Peter Cardinal Okpaleke. |

Ndibunna:That's not the point. The point is all these chauvinism is almost everywhere in igbo land. If mbaise man was appointed Bishop in Anambra state, they will still oppose it |

mrvitalis:This is not a game of numbers like politics is. The earlier you accept the obvious that spiritual things are not democratic but theocratic the better. |

DOTian:Well captured bro. Infact, the luck Mbaise had was just because of Pope Francis' liberal approach....If it were some conservative Pope, Mbaise would've been suppressed. The Catholic Church is greater than anybody therein! |

mrvitalis:The Pope is not bound by any canonical law or practice to do that. Before the Okpalaeke episode the saying had been in place that when confronted with an attack by a snake and an Mbaise man it would be the wise thing to do to first eliminate the Mbaise man before taking on the snake! The typical Mbaise fellow is thus considered more dangerous than a poisonous snake!! Folks who marry from Mbaise are generally speaking to be pitied. The Okpalaeke Experience has confirmed that it is not hate speech to say so! |

DOTian:The first Catholic Bishop of Orlu was from Okigwe. There were too many priests then from Orlu who could become Bishop. From Day 1, Orlu people accepted the Bishop. And the Bishop did too many development projects in the Diocese, before he died at a very old age. It's heresy in the Catholic Church for people of any Diocese to reject a Bishop sent by the Pope to take care of the Diocese. |

A blessing it is indeed for Nigeria to be given a new cardinal; congratulations to okpalaeke. But then I beg to differ on the mbaise issue. Let's be constructive in our criticism. As much as the office of the pope bears infallibility in all matters of doctrine and other catholic issues; should it be wrong for any other catholic faithful to voice out if there is a perceived sense of mis-direction in some decisions made by the Vatican. Only those who really understand that the church in itself is highly political know that some issues are better left the way they are. A lot of persons berate mbaise people for their decision stating the fact that decisions from the Vatican should not be contested. Mind you, same issue occured in the SW where a bishop was rejected and a new diocese was created; as was done for okpalaeke (by creating ekwulobia diocese) after his rejection. If this was done in SW to calm the tides; should mbaise people be totally blamed. That mbaise was really wrapped in controversy that even Cardinal Onaiyekan washed his hand off the case. In response to a comment on SE unity by someone here, I agree with you that we are not united. Unity exists when common interests are respected. Imo won't be united cause orlu people feel only them should produce governor's (which has remained so for almost 20yrs). Aren't other regions qualified, they play the game of numbers for their interest, but spell out competence when their son wants to contest. Evidently, is hope more competent than ihedioha. Someone made a statement that Anambra remain leaders of Igbo race, but should that be extended to the church if we claim to really serve Christ. I sight an example with the current suspension of the knights of st John in Nigeria by the supreme body in USA; this issue was birthed cause of the selfishness of an Anambra man who was the head in alignment with the then president of cbcn (an Anambra bishop). I chose to be specific with regions and names in this response, so we understand that unity can exist only if we respect each other despite our ethnicity/origin, religion, race, strata and find common grounds. Life is simple but we humans choose to complicate things due to selfishness. Before we are quick to berate mbaise people let us look inward in our individual families, some of which are divided and try to know the cause of it's division which will most likely be linked to individual selfishness that births the desire to oppress others whom you feel can't challenge you. Some will argue it's survival instinct to rule and being on top but in the real sense it is pure wickedness. Before we argue on religion (especially Christians) let us always ask ourselves this question; how would Christ have wanted it, not how would I have wanted it. |

DOTian:The most Shocking Protest against Okpaleke becoming bishop in Mbaise was on the day Rev Father's stood together side by side with Masquerades and Traditional Worshippers and we're protesting against Okpaleke becoming bishop of Mbaise Absolutely Shocking!! They need to truly re-embrace Christ |

Alusiizizi:So Mbaise are the ones appointing the bishops? The truth was that Mbaise asked Arinze to forward names they selected for the Pope to chose one of them, but the old man refused. He instead went ahead and sent one of his own. |

chocolatelady:You are so stupid to be taken serious. Great Mbaise people have shown you gutter rats that they are not a people to toil with. Rats like you don't understand the concept of fairness and justice, so how can you understand how to fight for your right. |

36STATES:Mbaise people were asked to propose a candidate to be appointed bishop and not to appoint a bishop by themselves. The account is that internal squabbles dragged the process for 5 years. During those 5 years was a candidate forwarded or not? Yes or no. |
