He's telling you facts. We are no longer under the church of England. All African churches are sovereign now. The only time the Archbishop of the Canterbury can come into issues here is when the issue is beyond settlement. Same way you see Church of Nigeria is same way you see Church of England. We separated since the days of Rowan Williams.

It looks now that my knowledge of this whole church matter froze around year 2000. I know there is a theological issue in the church but its obvious I don't have the knowledge about the split.

Homosexuality was the main problem.

At the 1998 Lambeth Conference (held once every 10 years, involving all Anglican Bishops of the World), the then Canterbury, George Carey raised the issue and Nigeria was not even patient with it as they vehemently resisted it from the word "go."

Infact the then Bishop of Enugu, (now Archbishop) Emmanuel Chukwuma attempted to slap one of the gay bishops right before the conference but was held back.

Nigeria led Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda and some other Asian parishes to commence the lead to break ties. New A&Ms were issued where the Queen was no longer referenced, then we now begin to have Church of Nigeria rather than Church of England.

Tge church is still known as Anglican though. I see they aligned with some breakaway America Anglican church too.
I used to think Anglican only had issue with women becoming bishop. I used to think its the Baptist church that had the issues with gay marriage acceptance in church with their western mother church

Homosexuality first became an issue at the 1998 Lambeth Conference. Subsequent Conferences have also brought it up using disguised names like Homo-relationship rather than homo-sexuality but whatever the name is, unacceptable; especially in Asia, West Africa and Eastern Africa parishes.

Howbeit, Churches in Central Africa who aren't financially up-to-date, are been heavily financed by those in Latin America, Ireland et al.... but No is No. The America breakaway Parishes are still doing their thing but here is a no-go area heavily marshalled by the Nigeria Church. The present man Welby is solidly against it but in its stead is allowing women bishops, something the Africa axis (except the S/African-bloc) is yet to grapple with.

mechie onu. What I mean by church of Africa is African churches answering their names like , church of Nigeria, church of Ghana etc. As an intelligent person. I expected you to surf your internet. They separated since the days of Rowan Williams or so.
