It's inferiority complex.
Very disgusting inferiority complex. Gush. All of a sudden, even baby shower in now a thing among black women. I thought it will end at mandatory expensive white weddings and photoshoots. Na wa.

What do you think is the essence of a baby shower? Ohhh, for the parents to gather people to feed? As they don't have what to do with money? It's only in this part of the world that people don't like giving gifts, they just want to come to your occasion and eat, that's why someone will go to a wedding and wrap an old plate just to collect souvenir. Abroad, they charge you for some occasions and wedding you attend sef. So yes, come with something, no matter how small.
I reserve my comment.

Well, her reference to the wedding experience gave her some validity.
The hormone thing just made her more expressive.

She's been in pain since the wedding.
It's not pain, it's a valid expression especially if she's the type that genuinely cares for people.

It's not fair atall.
Some guest jus want to be gluton on anoda man's party & still say ill stuff about the host & the service rendered without actually contributing nothing to the host as show of solidarity or support.

It's her party.
It's her choice...

I thought same. Entitlement mentality. She forgot that these people sacrificed time and money for transportation. Too sad. Too bad.

I experienced this thing in Rivers state very well. Most of hubbys friend didn't give us 1 kobo or even wedding gifts. We didn't sell aso-ebi to anybody yet we carried souvenir from Lagos to Portharcourt to share for them. I gave birth, the same thing, they all just came to eat naming ceremony rice. When they were getting married, hubby supported them financially and some i went there to assist with chores. They gave birth, we gave them baby gifts(money). The least amount we gave out is 10k. See ehn, those you don't expect or the ones that are not so close are the ones that cares. For those that came from far, it's understandable.

No one is asking for something expensive, just that it goes a long way in the heart of the celebrant. The lady that grinds pepper beside my house brought detergent (2 sachet) and antiseptic. My hairdresser brought a bottle of groundnut. My friend in the UK sent me baby cloths and shoes, I didn't expect it considering logistics fee and she just started her masters program. My bole (roasted plantain) seller who is almost 60yrs gave me baby cloths and she was so helpful. God bless that woman o. She was bathing the baby for a week and her house is not close at all.

I have already told hubby since the beginning of this year that we won't dash money any how.

This one has entitlement mentality. She doesn't know that the biggest gift anyone can give you is the gift of their time. Anyway I'd like to believe its pregnancy hormone and that she'll come to her senses later.

Very wise husband. He just took the mic and I thought he would refute the wife but he just handed it over to the DJ.

He certainly handled it well. This couple is in America. The guests are American. Everyone knows you can't touch a woman, let alone a pregnant woman in the public eye. He may have admonished her later, but he would have been foolish to do so in public. Most likely he has advised her to calm down or seek help from her doctor. He will not put her under much pressure, because he could charged with a crime.

Wow. This is like crazy. It's little things like this you use to know who is really your friend or who cares. If you are too caring in a relationship sometimes it becomes only your duty. I have experienced this. Those that don't owe u a dime of gratitude are the ones that make your day. While beneficiaries snub you. The best way to handle them is reciprocity. Attend their programs. Take everything, gift, food, etc. Don't drop shishi. Rub it in their face. If they have conscience they will rethink. The same goes for everything not just occasions. Don't spend shishi unless they do. Count your gains and only give to those who really need. The poor.

I am not talking about touching the wife. Why would someone assault their wife whether privately or publicly (irrespective of where they are) for what she said? That would be a very foolish man.

I mean just like the other lady refuted what the wife said by saying she was only joking. The husband could have also said the same thing, actually his body language showed he wanted to say it, but he must have advised himself against that.
