I wonder how INEC would be able to confront these areas in our electioneering campaigns.

The issues of religion and ethnicity, for example, are core areas that shape our political discourse.

This is so because it is what happens in our day to day politics.

Tinubursted's Mu-Mu ticket, for instance, can't be swept under the carpet by fiat.

The North, in the person of Buhari, having ruled by for eight uninterrupted years and having another Northerner taking over immediately, would be resisted and would form part of the political debate and campaign.

INEC, the Electoral Law or the Constitution can't take away the right of free speech which the Constitution itself guarantees.

Elections are also meant to correct anomalies in the system and this can only be achieved by discussing them openly.
