This mix up occurred in 1994, when Chief Donatus Etiebet was made petroleum minister, it occurred in 2015 when Chief Donald Etiebet died and it has occurred occasionally since then.

Some people also mix up Chief Don Etiebet (the petroleum minister) and Chief Dan Etete, who succeeded him as petroleum minister.

Wow , didn't know this myself. Donald and Donatus. I see that their papa probably had a fixation with the letter D.

Anyway, it could have been worse. Like George Foreman the retired boxer and 5 of his kids ( out of 12 in total) who also are called George.

And yes, used to mix up etiebet and etete. What stopped me from mixing it up was to always remember etete was the younger man. Also he is Dan not Don.

Whether he's dead or alive Apc would never govern this country again or every one goes their separate ways

Chief Donatus Etiebet, the former petroleum minister, appeared on Sunrise on Channels Television quite often in the 2000s.

President Olusegun Obasanjo was trying to remove petroleum subsidies back then and this resulted in multiple NLC strikes. Nigeria was also plagued by constant fuel shortages back then and Chief Etiebet, who was Channels TV's landlord, was often invited to Sunrise to provide analysis of what was happening.

Channels TV was based at Etiebet's Place back then and Sunrise (which was shown on Saturday mornings) was hosted (at various times) by Alero Edun, Onyeka Onwenu, Patrick Oke and Yori Folarin.

So what if the real one died and APC begged the brother to replace him to cover their deals?

He's probably relying on Wikipedia, but Wikipedia mixed up the names and pictures. He is also wrong when he says that Chief Donatus Obot Etiebet is not famous.

Chief Donatus Etiebet was made petroleum minister in 1994 and therefore he was regularly in the news. He was removed in 1995 and he was still in the news after he was removed because there were constant rumours that he had problems with General Sani Abacha.

He was also quite visible after Nigeria returned to democracy in 1999. He built a tall building in Ikeja called Etiebet's Place and he was also involved in ICT companies and science associations.

Channels Television was based at Etiebet's place and he regularly appeared on the station.

Personally, I blame the living Don Etiebet for the mix-up and confusion because of his insistence on bearing the exact name of his dead brother. I mean, what stops him from modifying his name a little bit so that people seeing his name don't mistake it for his dead brother's name?
