Why not expose his identity? It's not wise to hide it in my opinion except it's a staged one. Where was the captain? Was he buying gas? If so, the rider wasn't at he's destination so I wonder where the captain was.. did he have a quick emergency leaving the rider by himself?

I'm not saying it's not possible but hey! Who leaves he's customer unattended to? Even if you're at the gas station, you'll see through the glasses...
