Seven Samurai have entered the chat.

If you know you know.
True. Seeing how it inspired films like the Magnificent Seven and Seven Swords of Mount Heaven, that movie is a classic.

I still want to rewatch Seven Swords of Mount Heaven though....

2 movies. 2 great horror movies.

Ringu- the ring
Juon- the grudge

Then let's get to other genres
-battle royale (hunger games copied it)
-13 assassins
-7 samurai

Also note that there are more American-Japanese collabo movies. Tokyo Drift, Godzilla, etc.

You don't know bro
You just proved my point
You couldn't even name 10 purely made Japanese films.

Some of the ones you named are mediocre Hollywood films with Japanese collaboration/influence...lol.

Ringu and Juon are scarely quite alright but "The Wailing" is on another level.
Battle Royale is overrated, couldn't fully immerse myself in it.
13 Assassins is goated.
I haven't seen 7 Samurai.

Japan make good films but their great films are few when you compare them to Korea.

It goes beyond that though. The seven samurai have inspired multiple other movies and TV episodes. Once you have a movie with farmers being harassed by a gang of thugs and hiring a bunch of warriors..

Off the top of my head a bugs life is that story. Ants being bullied by locusts and engaging a troupe of circus insects

There is also an episode from season 1 of the mandalorian where a bunch of farmers being shaken down by some thugs with an AT-ST hire Mando to sort it out.

Having gone down the rabbit hole of Korean movies, I have to say, pound for pound, Korea make better films than Hollywood.

>>Not from Korea<<
*13 Assassins, Outrage (Japan)
*The Cabin in The Woods, Evil Dead (Hollywood).
*May The Devil take You (Indonesia)

Why? You must be a gen z to make this blasphemous post.

Hollywood churns out more movies than Korea. Secondly, there is a reason why Hollywood is the most popular movie producer in the world.

The matrix, predestination, Avatar, Inception and Avengers alone should tell you that Hollywood no get mate

Japan pop culture renaissance has come and gone. Before that, it was Hong Kong. This things seem to come and go in waves.

Right now, we're in Korea pop culture renaissance. Started in the early 2000s and has grown from strength to strength.

Japan still reigns in anime though.

I'll forgive this thoughtless squib due to your ignorance.

Watch the titles in the screenshots, after which I'll take you seriously.

Also, go learn the meaning of pound for pound.

Pound for pound, Hollywood is still the better of the two.

That is why I posted 4 Hollywood movies that no single Korean movie can stand up to.

You are the one that has no idea what you are saying. If you checked the meaning of pound for pound, you would see that the quality of their blockbusters are not the same.

battle royale which has effectively inspired a billion dollar industry is overrated?

the inspiration for pubg, fortnite, and the battle royale mode in just about every shooter there is today?

what about Godzilla - which is still being remade to this day?

and i dont even want to start on anime - akira ; the studio gibli's catalog,

korean cinema is only now blowing up on the international scene. Japanese cinema goes back to the 50s and 60s.

And who said I was disputing the history and influence of Japanese cinema
The crux of the matter is the fact that its glory days are over.
Korea cinema has more influence now.

Bro, don't waste your time on these weeaboos.

You might as well be flogging a dead horse.

Korea pop culture has been silently influencing the world for close to 20 years but no, they'd rather bury their heads in the sand and pretend it's a recent occurrence.

20 years ago, How many of the Korean films you mentioned existed at the Time?

Korean pop culture has little influence on anything. Korean pop culture has copied from Japanese and American cultures.

Forget all these Gen Z, tik-tok attention span guys.

They only know what is currently in popular demand.

Some of them think that Squid Game is a novel idea. Not knowing that Kaiji and many Japanese gambling movies has similar plots before it.

Even on Twitter people always find a middle ground or concede to a new school of thought after evidences have been brought forward on how wrong you were previously.

While you may be right in some ways, I don't think Japan Cultural influence is gone. It seems to have waned a bit in terms of live action but it's still solid and well respected.

True, we're in Korean's pop culture reign. But more of it has to do with Korean content gaining more audience and spreading globally. And it is yet to reach its peak unlike other regions below that had reached their peak popularity.

It's an interesting topic/argument you brought tho.
Makes me reminisce on the days when South American (Mexican) soaps held sway. Indian too at some point as well as Chinese/Hong Kong movie industry. Bollywood seem to adapt and keep a sizeable audience with Zee World content.
Each region has its time of dominion but lack of adaptation to current zeitgeist may affect an industry.

Bro, that's a big fat lie.
Some of the best horrors are korean.....
Can you name 10 great Japanese movies offhand?
I know I can name 10 goated Korean movies offhand.

Memories of Murder, Oldboy, Castaway on The Moon, I saw the Devil, Mother, Sympathy for Lady Vengeance, Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, The Wailing, Bedevilled, Parasite.

Japan seldom make interesting live action films.
Anime dominates their pop culture.

You're kinda wrong on Japanese content tho.

While Korea now has many movie great titles to call on, Japan can also boast same. Although, the Japs has been losing ground on live action in recent years while the Koreans has been consolidating.

Ju On, The Ring are always in best horror movies of all time.

The Wind Rises, My Neighbor Totoro, Spirited Away, Paprika, Akira, Ghost in A Shell, Perfect Blue, Princess Mononoke, Grave of Fireflies.....

These are some top well recognized premium Japanese anime movies even tho I haven't watched all.

I didn't dispute that Japan doesn't have great live action titles, they do but when compared to Korea, there aren't many japanese live action goated titles.
Like I can name 10 great korean films produced within 2000 - 2022 but I can't do the same for Japan.

As regards goated horrors, if Japan has only Juon and Ringu to call upon, Korea has it beat with The Tale of Two Sisters, The Wailing, The Haunted Asylum, and Bedevilled.

In Anime, Japan is a world leader, but in other genres, they're not on par with Korea.
