For once I agree with you.
In terms of toxicity, Twitter is worse than Nairaland.

While you may be right in some ways, I don't think Japan Cultural influence is gone. It seems to have waned a bit in terms of live action but it's still solid and well respected.

True, we're in Korean's pop culture reign. But more of it has to do with Korean content gaining more audience and spreading globally. And it is yet to reach its peak unlike other regions below that had reached their peak popularity.

It's an interesting topic/argument you brought tho.
Makes me reminisce on the days when South American (Mexican) soaps held sway. Indian too at some point as well as Chinese/Hong Kong movie industry. Bollywood seem to adapt and keep a sizeable audience with Zee World content.
Each region has its time of dominion but lack of adaptation to current zeitgeist may affect an industry.

In terms of live action, Japanese influence is non existent.
It's only Anime that's keeping Japan relevant at the moment
Take that away, and they'd disappear like Hong Kong movie industry.

Korean pop culture has peaked.

K-Pop is dominating the airwaves, Parasite won the Oscars for best motion picture, BTS is a global sensation, goated movie directors, etc....

The scary thing about the Korean wave is that even though it has peaked, it's not abating.

You're kinda wrong on Japanese content tho.

While Korea now has many movie great titles to call on, Japan can also boast same. Although, the Japs has been losing ground on live action in recent years while the Koreans has been consolidating.

Ju On, The Ring are always in best horror movies of all time.

The Wind Rises, My Neighbor Totoro, Spirited Away, Paprika, Akira, Ghost in A Shell, Perfect Blue, Princess Mononoke, Grave of Fireflies.....

These are some top well recognized premium Japanese anime movies even tho I haven't watched all.
All GOATed

Japanese influence non existent ke? Maybe presently they are anonymous but you can't deny their greatness back in the day.
People that it is there hardcore style and different approach to horror Korea and other Asians copied.
Their live action, Hollywood even decided to replicate their version cos of the GOATEDness ie Ju On & The Ring.

Well, on Korea I still don't think they've peaked yet. Although, they seem to be at the stage or getting towards it now with all their export — BTS, BlackPink and the likes. I'm yet to start seeing their films dominating box office like on foreign soil like the Japs. I want to start seeing Korean films doing great numbers at foreign soil. Eg India, US and other countries. They've got the awards thing/ critical reception on lock presently.

I don't know why but Japan seems to have turned its focus on anime. Even at that it's yielding fruit with anime movies dominating their box office. Look at Demon Slayer, JJK and One Piece red anime movie box office. We remembered how Demon Slayer was breaking records and even dominated US box office at a time. If AOT launches
I don't think any Asian industry can boast of Japan's BO dexterity worldwide at present.

I don't know why they don't feel like replicating these anime greatness to live action like before.
My own deduction of the two country is they've decided to push their countries' entertainment industry and pop culture differently. Korea with all-round development while Japan has firmly moved to anime as it's bread and butter. Anime is also gaining massive fandom and popularity at an unprecedented level worldwide.

I'm still wondering how come Hong Kong movie industry died off just like that. The only thing they can boast of of recent memory is IP Man franchise. undecided

Yeah, with China fully incorporating the autonomous region, the push has been moved to propaganda and not much thought provoking filmaking.

Japan and Korea has done well for themselves both critically and commercially in entertainment industry. They have given us premium good content over the years and solid alternatives to Hollywood's English speaking fare as well as differing cultural influence.

But in terms of top quality and consistency as well as legacy and deep long history, no one comes close to Hollywood. Be it TV shows or movies, pound for pound Hollywood has no equal. I'm not capping.

Shawshank Redemption
Pulp Fiction
Titanic
Saving Private Ryan
Se7en
LOTR
The Matrix
Inception
The Shining
The Exorcism of Emily Rose
It Follows
Black Hawk Down
Back To The Future
The Dark Knight
Joker etc

Only movies from the 90s to 2010, no one can boast of that catalogue of awesomeness and variety. I don't even want to talk about early 50-80s movies like The Godfather franchise, Gone With The Wind etc.
With these top quality adding the 2010s till now will be overkill.

Note that these movies I mentioned are 95% of what I've already watched and not the full repertoire of cult classics and all time greats.

Forget the rubbish wey 2020s don dey give us, Hollywood no get mate!! I believe 2023 will be a huge bounce back for Hollywood great storytelling. We already seeing some of it in late 2022.

pick a hill and decide to die on it despite glaring facts and evidences of how wrong their hill of choice is

Even on Twitter people always find a middle ground or concede to a new school of thought after evidences have been brought forward on how wrong you were previously.

Hollywood is a copycat. Most of their stories were stolen from other countries and remixed to make you believe it's theirs. Britain is the biggest victim here. They took their bestselling books and adapted it to make millions in the box office worldwide. They know how to tap from countries misfortunes take for instance Slumdog Millionaire and make money out of it. That's why it's one of the highest grossers of all time. If only other countries can see through them and stop them before they pillage the world with their imperialist monopolistic agenda, the entertainment world will be free for all.

all industries copy bro...
All industries take inspiration

And again, Hollywood provides technology and market for these live action adaptations
If these countries had those, why don't they make proper live action adaptations to their own stories?

Look alone at the budget of Hollywood movies, look at the market, Hollywood movies sell everywhere...
Most people won't even watch a movie that isn't from Hollywood, most won't watch a movie that isn't even English language

Was the matrix stolen? What about inception?

Hollywood also has original ideas.

Both movies were influenced by anime.
Inception took inspiration from the anime movie Paprika while Matrix's was from Akira, Ghost in The Shell and Ninja Scroll.

Oldboy (2013) : 7/10

A nice thriller, I didn't expect the conclusion. Apparently, it's a remake of the 2003 south Korean movie of the same name.

After reading the plot of the original online, I prefer the ending of the adaptation.

The original is far far better

Oldboy (Korean) is regarded as one of the top movies of all time
It is one of the Vengeance trilogy, 3 movies about revenge produced by the same director within a few years
