These are man made disasters
Dams in neighbouring countries are being opened
And they are pouring into river Niger
This the same thing lagos government is warning about
The dams would break if they hold
So they rather flood and hope the loss is not much on the people

Can you please stop sensationalising it as if flooding effect is a competition or these billions you are calling are chicken feeds money. No doubt even N1 loss is a loss but those farms are not worth the amount in billions you just exaggerated it to.

That farm in Nassarawa is not worth $140m and does not account for 25% of rice farms in Nigeria so please stop giving false numbers.

Rice farms are built in swamp fields and this flooding is one of the risks associated with the business all over the world from US to India to Pakistan to Brazil. They will not be out of business despite the flooding.
No serious rice farmer quits rice farming business because of flooding.
Imagine, 20 million dollars and 140 million dollars. Totally false. Someone has this kinda money and invested them in bloody rice? undecided bloody liar! Anyway, why is he telling us? So we can refund these exaggerated amount?

Someone with this huge investment should be up to the minute with weather forecasts.
Serious Measures ought to have been taken to redirect the flood

Price of Nigeria rice in the market is going up by the day. I don't think Nigeria is self sufficient enough for local production. The borders should be open for rice importation now before famine sets in.

You haven't the question.

Oga, read what your screenshot and what you highlighted? Are they the same?
Nigeria consumes an estimate 7 million tonnes of rice annually and total National production/total combined output of all Nigeria rice farms produce about 5 million tonnes
and we import about 2 million tonnes to suffix the demand gap.

rice production in Nigeria was only about 3.7 million tonnes in 2017.
The largest rice farm in Nigeria about 10000 hectares-----Olam Farms accounts for about 25% of this 5million tonnes Local production. All other rice farms in the whole of Nigeria combined represent 75%.
The total local production is insufficient for National rice needs.100% of Nigeria rice Farms cannot meet 100% of Nigeria rice demands. 100% of Local production cannot meet 100% of National demand.

The largest rice farm is over 9800 hectares and that is Olam Farms.Olam Farms represents 25%. Meaning the Total rice farms, viz subsistence rice farming/small small subsistence rice farms & other mechanised rice farms outlets scattered across the whole Nation (75%), have a Total combined capacity about three 3 Times the size of Olam Farms, or approximately about 30 000 hectares

Now, imagine what hardship that is coming our way this December.

This is the reason why the borders should be opened and import restrictions removed. It's risky for all Nigerians to depend on one source for feeding. Disasters like this,Boko Haram, bandits and other terrorists will indirectly lord over all Nigerians.
The price of rice would soon double world over. India, Thailand, and Vietnam, who are top three producers and exporters in the world recently decided to hike the prices.

Rice would be very expensive next year. Nigeria must be much more self sufficient in rice than ever.

Though rice may be expensive in Naija now, but Buhari's desire to see that we are self sufficient in rice by banning importation of rice temporarily is spot on for now.

Still, the owners should have planned and prepared for this...

This is not the first time, and won't be the last, that dams are opened with consequent floods.

It's beyond shocking for farmers to say they didn't see this coming.

With which dollar are you going to use to import the rice ?
Ebubu:
staple food go cost next year oo

FG better lift import duty on rice in January so enough will be on market before mid next year when price of local rice will shoot

that’s the only way to prevent looming hunger and inflation on local rice

That's partly why we don't have a good domestic textiles industry anymore....unrestricted importation
If you go to farm terrorists and kidnappers would end up deciding your destiny and if you stay at home hunger will kill you and you are here saying something else. Federal government should provide enabling environment for food sufficiently first or allow food importation
