Print Your NIN on Plastic, You May Never Get A Chip Enabled Enin Plastic ID Card by Shopwise(op):
While the objective of the establishment of NIN included the delivery of an eNIN with a chip to enable financial inclusion and ability to store personal data in partnership with MasterCard,it seems the government has adjusted the path of MasterCard partnership to produce eNIN in other to focus on creating a robust identify infrastructure without the overhead of card production, management, distribution and the consequent Forex flight by allowing citizens to download soft copies and print anywhere with the ability to choose what pleases them.
Does this place extra burden on citizens by making them responsible for printing the cards instead of the government issuing the cards?

You decide by yourself.

However here are different provisions made available by government for practical and possible day to day identity needs.

The brown card issued to you is free and valid but may not be convenient to carry around.(Some mistakenly refer to this as soft copy because it is 'soft')

The standard ID format is about #500 to download from NIMC site or app and is printable as a normal ID card size that fits your wallet or you may decide to print on paper

The premium ID format adds beauty and appeal with nice colours at an extra cost of #1200 that can also be printed on anything you like.

You can do most identity verification by printing on ordinary paper which some may laminate for protection and durability.

Printing NIN on plastic makes it more durable, presentable and usable on some sensitive website that may fail to recognise the one printed on paper.
Websites like Binance as well as financial institutions prefer you using the ID printed on plastic

So everyone have a choice to pick from depending on where you need to use your means of ID.
1.Use brown card at #0
2.Use the NIN app to download the standard card at #500 (remita charges included) with option to print on plastic at #1000-#1500 depending on the quality of production and the business centre. or print on paper for less than #200 depending on whether it's colored and or laminated

3.Use the NIN app to download the premium at #1200(remita charges included) with option to print on plastic at #1000-#1500 depending on the quality of production and the business centre. or print on paper for less than #200 depending on whether it's colored and or laminated

4.You may also choose to display your ID from your phone.

Wether the government stand may change in the future to accommodate a chip enabled ID card remains to be seen.
But if you seriously need a means of identification as at today your best options are as outlined in this post!
I hope this helps.
