Atiku Abubarkar in Akwa Ibom State: Moral and political questions

By ETIM ETIM

The visit of Alhaji Atiku Abubarkar to Akwa Ibom State for the flag-off of his presidential campaign today (October 10, 2022) raises a number of moral and political questions that Akwa Ibom people should consider keenly.

First, the moral issues:

1. Atiku was the VP to President Obasanjo and we recall that President Obasanjo and Atiku Abubarkar adamantly opposed the payment of 13% derivation to Akwa Ibom State. Obasanjo, in the presence of Atiku, said, ‘’Akwa Ibom must beg; Akwa Ibom will suffer’’, but Atiku did not help. He was complicit in Obasanjo’s cruelty to our people. I invite the reader to read my book on the roles played by some eminent sons of the state in the fight to stop Obasanjo’s cruelty. Atiku did not do anything to help Akwa Ibom in those very difficult moments.

2. As VP, Atiku was the Chairman of National Council on Privatization, the position on which he presided over the privatization programme of the government. The privatization of ALSCON, the aluminum smelter company in Ikot Abasi, was so messy that it led to the death of that thriving company, and many Akwa Ibom people lost their jobs.

Is it morally right for Akwa Ibom people to support Atiku?

The political question

Atiku is a Fulani Muslim from Adamawa. Is it appropriate in a pluralistic democracy for him to aspire to succeed Buhari, another Fulani Muslim from Katsina? The Fulani are just about 8 million people in the country. How fair is that?

Akwa Ibom people must ponder these questions as they go to the stadium today.

All politics is local, and all politics must take care of your interest.

You cannot be part of a political process that is antithetical to your group interest.

Just re-read this childish thing you wrote sir:

"Obasanjo, in the presence of Atiku, said, ‘’Akwa Ibom must beg; Akwa Ibom will suffer’’, but Atiku did not help"

I dont know why you people always attribute and link in another person's mistakes and failure to another. What is the meaning of 'Atiku did not help' ? .. Should he have wrestled with his boss?

Because i dont get you guys, always trying to look for cheap propaganda where there is none. This the worst attempt at painting someone's bad. He didnt even said those things. So why trying to crucify 'Mr A' for what 'Mr B' said?

The same hate instigations strategy you are trying with Tinubu also. Linking Buhari's administrative performances to Tinubu's candidacy. Just because he clamoured for Buhari's during 2015,2019. I dont get it.

Will it be also fair to link Peter obi to Unknown gunmen and Ipob activities because he once directly, take note of the word 'directly' said IPOB are his brothers, and he lives with them.

Secondly, the issue of saying fulani ruled for 8years and Atiku is another fulani... Blah blah blah.
Is nothing but pure nonsense. This is the reason why we are still where we are today as a country. Always trying to rope in Religion and ethnicity into politics, when things are not playing our way. It doesnt fvcking matters if Atiku is fulani, if he is competent and can do the job.. Who freaking cares?

The thing is south-east and south-south people are so mentally backward, they act and think like they are still living in stone age. Always feeling unnecessarily emotional about nothing.

People work for votes, majority of the votes wins the elections. So fvck your ethnicity game play, fvck your religion victimization card...
Competent leader is all we want.. Simple.!

I may not agree with you blaming Atiku for Obasanjo's actions; but the truth remains that IT IS UNFAIR FOR ATIKU TO SUCCEED BUHARI, that will be one tribe ruling for 16 years. Very unfair.

There will be so much political imbalance

It is morally wrong no matter how we look at it. No fairness in a Fulani succeeding another Fulani.

Then for Yoruba, our kinsman- Obasanjo was President for 8 years. Osinbajo (another Yoruba) is rounding up as vice for 8 years.

It's only fair for the South East to have a shot through Obi. Lets not even talk of his stellar qualities and youthfulness.

What is bad is bad abeg

Debunk the points laid by the writer. Instead of dismissing the write up. Is it fair that a Fulani man succeeds another Fulani man?

Oga let's put aside the part where you said it's not right to attribute another person's mistake to someone else. The question the writer is asking is this: is it right for Atiku to succeed another northerner? You dodged that part of the write up.

At the moment the most competent is what actually counts.

At this moment there are so many reasons to like and dislike the various presidential candidate but among the bads which is better?

At this moment the future is what matters.

In your opinion who's the most competent?

In my opinion the most competent is Atiku in virtually all ramifications he has proved his readiness towards piloting the affairs of this country. I swear he may not be perfect but I feel is wealth of administrative experience.

I am one person that will kick against a Muslim succeeding another Muslim but I am so scared at the moment non of the rest could stand shoulder tall with what they want to achieve for Nigerians and Nigeria in clear terms.

I could easily tell you the two things that hooked me into supporting Atiku. I have a very strong eye for the future of this country and in my view a restructured Nigeria will balance almost all the bend areas of our dear nation.

Atiku stands for Restructuring and Devolution of Power.

Obi said Constitutional Restructuring will take a long time which sadly equally means the man does not know what he wants and what this nation needs at this forsaken times.

Don't even go there, in my view Tinubu is the complete opposite of what Restructuring should be. Don't blame me if you think I am stupid on this, so far so good Tinubu has not been able to tell the world what, where he wants to take Nigeria to. The man is so epileptic (forgive that word) but you got my point.

Hence I said at the moment tribe does not count for me.
