Shoddy oversight and poor regulation and implementation of extant laws by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment are aiding trafficking of women to Saudi Arabia in the name of searching for greener pastures.

Recently, through the intervention of the Nigerian Embassy in Saudi Arabia, 1,000 housemaids were deported to Nigeria.

These housemaids are airlifted to Saudi Arabia by private employment agencies licensed by the Federal Ministry of Labour.

Information obtained from the ministry through the Freedom of Information Law indicated that two agencies were fully accredited to recruit Nigerians as domestic staff in Saudi Arabia. It, however, said a total of 22 of such agencies were licensed.

We told them this would happen. Misplaced priorities. What Kenya needs is to put more money into tourism and manufacturing. It's Leprechaun economy keeps growing artificially despite unemployment. It needs more manufacturing jobs even if it's just to replace some of the things it imports and then begin to export more. That sgr was not needed at the time they borrowed to build it. Now they're defaulting.

What is the official deal Kefala system is the OFFICIAL deal together with SHARIA law in Saud Arabia. They are not going to ammend it for Nigeria. But you're also on Sharia law in north...so maybe you hae sharia-sharia deal.

The recruiters are under gov control - as they should. That is work of ministry of labour - even in Kenya - they go to companies - and ensure working conditions are safe - people are paid salaries etc.

I dont think I responded to you. I responded to Obaboon. Yes there are two side of the coin. Saudi Arabia are awash with job opportunities.

How would such a ban be effected by gov? I dont think it's all gloom and doom; what gov need are to open offices in middle east to assist their citizens in distress including rescue centers;

Saudi has climbed to be Kenya 3rd source of forex. We cannot condemn it all - the problem is with live in maids - but drivers, operators and others have no problem.
