We are not Ghana that import finished goods. We import petroleum, cooking oil, cars, medicine and machinery. What we can easily displace is cooking oil - of about 1 billion dollars - and maybe we can start to refine our crude oil eventually - and produce more medicine.

Premature urbanization like you see in West Africa and Southern Africa is VERY BAD.
That is why their cities have become huge slums teeming with crimes and name it.

Urbanization has to go hand in hand with increase in income.

This is what happened in Europe, Asia and Latin America.

Kenya is in right track - you dont want to have rural-urban migration faster than opportunities in urban areas are available.

What will happen - urban areas will turn into huge slumpolis like west africa - where everyone is informal in retail and trading.

We import maize mostly from Tanzania - its taken to millers - and turned into maize floor. That is raw materials.
I dont know if there is any made in Tanzania product in kenya supermarkets.
